Commercial Journeyman Plumber — Heavy Civil Construction Fuller and Sons Construction — Amarillo, Texas Full-Time Position Overview Fuller and Sons Construction is seeking an experienced Commercial Journeyman Plumber to support our heavy civil and underground utility projects. This position is focused entirely on new construction and infrastructure work. It does not involve residential service calls, plumbing repairs, water heaters, or routine facility maintenance. The Journeyman Plumber will install underground water, sewer, and related piping systems while ensuring all work meets project specifications, applicable codes, and company safety standards. The ideal candidate can read plans, lay out work accurately, solve field problems, and work effectively around excavation crews and heavy equipment. Primary Responsibilities Install underground domestic water, sanitary sewer, fire-line, gas, and related utility piping systems. Install water mains, service lines, sewer mains, manholes, vaults, valves, hydrants, meters, cleanouts, and related components. Read and interpret civil plans, utility profiles, specifications, shop drawings, and construction details. Determine pipe locations, elevations, slopes, grades, connection points, and required clearances. Lay out underground piping systems according to approved plans and survey control. Measure, cut, thread, fuse, weld, solder, and join piping using approved materials and installation methods. Install ductile iron, PVC, HDPE, copper, steel, and other piping materials commonly used in heavy civil construction. Use pipe lasers, levels, measuring equipment, testing equipment, and other construction tools. Coordinate installations with project managers, superintendents, operators, laborers, inspectors, testing personnel, and other subcontractors. Inspect pipe, fittings, valves, and related materials before installation. Conduct pressure tests, leakage tests, disinfection procedures, and other required system testing. Assist with utility tie-ins, shutdowns, bypass operations, and connections to existing municipal systems. Identify utility conflicts, elevation problems, unsuitable materials, and other field conditions before they delay the project. Ensure bedding, pipe placement, connections, blocking, restraint, and backfill preparation meet project requirements. Maintain accurate records of installations, testing, inspections, and completed work when required. Protect installed utilities from damage during excavation, backfilling, compaction, and other construction activities. Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas. Follow company safety policies and all applicable OSHA requirements. Perform additional duties necessary to complete heavy civil projects safely, accurately, and on schedule. Required Qualifications Current Texas Journeyman Plumber License. Experience with heavy civil construction, underground utilities, commercial site development, or municipal infrastructure. Knowledge of water-distribution, sanitary-sewer, fire-line, gas, and related underground piping systems. Ability to read and understand civil construction plans, utility profiles, specifications, and technical drawings. Understanding of pipe elevations, grades, slopes, offsets, and utility clearances. Experience installing and joining multiple types of underground pipe. Knowledge of applicable plumbing codes, municipal requirements, and construction safety standards. Ability to perform accurate measurements, elevations, and trade calculations. Ability to work safely in and around excavations, trenches, heavy equipment, and active construction operations. Ability to work independently and make sound field decisions. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Dependable attendance and willingness to work extended hours when project schedules require it. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, inspectors, and clients. Preferred Qualifications Experience installing municipal water and sanitary-sewer systems. Experience with ductile iron, PVC, HDPE, copper, and steel piping. Experience with HDPE fusion, pipe threading, welding, brazing, or similar joining methods. Experience installing fire lines, hydrants, valves, vaults, manholes, and large-diameter piping. Experience performing pressure testing, chlorination, flushing, and disinfection. Knowledge of trench safety, excavation safety, shoring, shielding, and confined-space requirements. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification. Confined-space or competent-person training. Experience leading apprentices or small utility crews. Physical Requirements This position requires the ability to: Regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally handle heavier materials with assistance or mechanical equipment. Stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and work in trenches throughout the workday. Enter and exit excavations using approved ladders and access systems. Work around trench boxes, shoring systems, lifting equipment, and moving machinery. Use hands and arms to operate tools, handle pipe, and assemble underground piping systems. Work outdoors in heat, cold, wind, dust, mud, noise, and changing weather conditions. Wear all required personal protective equipment. Project leadership receives timely communication regarding progress, conflicts, testing, and material needs.
