Job Description

Scott Hale Plumbing, Drains, Heating and Air is the premier plumbing and HVAC service in Salt Lake City & surrounding areas. As a CDL Class A Underground Plumbing Apprentice, you will be responsible for safely operating Class A commercial vehicles while transporting plumbing equipment, materials, tools, and supplies to residential and commercial job sites. You will assist experienced plumbers with underground sewer and water line installation, excavation, backfilling, and site restoration while developing hands-on plumbing skills.
Pay Structure:
Hourly, $26.00•33.00
Schedule:
Monday•Friday, no on-call, occasional Saturdays as business needs
The Role:
Underground Plumbing Apprentice•
Class A CDL Role Responsibilities:
Responsible for safely transporting heavy plumbing equipment, materials, fixtures, or job-site supplies to and from residential and commercial plumbing projects. Operate Class A commercial vehicles to transport while following all DOT regulations and company safety procedures, ensuring equipment arrives safely and on schedule. Under direct supervision, install new sewer and water lines and other related plumbing associated with the job.
Site Preparation and Maintenance:
Assist in preparing excavation sites for plumbing and sewer line installation or repair. Clear and clean the site of debris before and after work is performed.
Manual Labor:
Dig trenches and holes for sewer lines using hand and power tools. Backfill trenches and restore the site after plumbing work is complete. Assist with lifting, carrying, and positioning pipes and equipment.
Equipment and Tool Maintenance:
Load and unload plumbing and excavation tools, equipment, and materials. Inspect and maintain tools such as power tools, pipe cutters, wrenches, and shovels. Operate or assist with small machinery like compactors and water pumps. Perform job with minimal disturbance of customers' property and comfort. Backfill and tamp down trenches, concrete basements/ slabs, and seed & straw yards. Document all materials used from truck stock and materials to be returned from orders on the original material requisition. Attend and participate in regular meetings and training (some of which may be offsite or at our office).
Required Experience:
Valid CDL A License. Valid driver's license with a good driving record. 2 or more years of excavation experience. Ability to lift and carry heavy materials (up to 50 lbs or more). Comfortable performing physically demanding tasks, including digging, crouching, bending, and standing for extended periods.
Preferred Experience:
Intermediate knowledge/use of industry-standard software (i.e. Service Titan, or other related systems)
