Job Description

Summary:
The Journeyman Plumber position performs new installations, maintenance, and repair of the plumbing and heating systems on the College facilities and is familiar with the laws, rules and regulations governing the same.
Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, maintain, repair, and install plumbing and heating systems throughout the College facilities. Maintain and provide for the safe and sanitary condition and operation of all Casper College plumbing and heating systems. The position reports to the Building Maintenance Supervisor. Obtain permits for plumbing and mechanical installations and renovations; license required to be under Casper College. Service and maintain all heating systems and associated equipment. Install, calibrate, service, and repair all pneumatic compressors, thermostats, boiler controls, dampers, and safety control equipment needed for proper operation of heating systems. Service and maintain all pneumatic and direct digital temperature control systems. Install and service a variety of boilers, water heaters, furnaces, water softeners, unit heaters, and kitchen equipment. Install, service, and provide preventative maintenance of all heating/cooling and plumbing equipment; maintain appropriate records. Repair, install, and replace plumbing equipment such as sinks, urinals, toilets, water fountains, water heaters, flush valves, faucets, water softeners, etc. Maintain plumbing drainage system on campus; repair, service, and install various types of piping. Inform the Supervisor of any potential problems relating to proper operation of heating, plumbing, and HVAC systems. Schedule and maintain work orders for completion in a timely manner. Perform duties safely and in compliance with all Casper College and Physical Plant policies and procedures and with local, state, OSHA, ADA and Industry Safety Standards. Maintain records of chemical balance installed in each hot water boiler on campus. Remove snow and ice from steps, sidewalks, and entries; apply ice melt. Maintain leave notification records or ensure that all forms are transferred to the Supervisor. Ensure that all specific instructions for work orders are conformed to and return work orders with material usage noted on individual work orders. Carry and respond to College provided cell phone; carry and utilize a two-way radio while working. Report concerns, hazardous conditions, and injuries/ accidents to supervisor or designee.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent Journeyman Plumber's License Minimum of 4 years' experie nce in the commercial industrial plumbing trade with the ability to install, maintain, and repair plumbing and heating systems Ability to perform physical labor for full shift (8 hours) and for more than a full shift (over 8 hours) with or without a reasonable accommodation Ability to follow relevant policies, procedures, instructions and safety standards; work safely with power tools, vehicles and machinery Knowledge of local, state, OSHA, ADA, EPA, and Industry Safety Standards as well as local, state, and national Plumbing Codes Knowledge of and experience working with plumbing, automation control, and heating systems Knowledge of and experience with electrical (low voltage) control wiring related to heating, ventilating and cooling systems Experience working with office equipment such as computer, printer, fax machine, photocopier, Word processing, database and other related software applications Ability to effectively organize and prioritize assigned work Ability to maintain a professional, effective and collegial working relationship with co-workers, the public and all campus constituent groups communicating effectively both verbally and in writing
Licenses/Certificates:
Valid motor vehicle license at the time of hire and must obtain a Wyoming driver's license within 30 days of hire. Must maintain insurability under the College's insurance plan.
Journeyman Plumber's License Desired Qualifications:
Experience as a maintenance and repair technician in the public sector is preferred
Work Environment:
The normal work environment is in building mechanical spaces requiring normal to heightened safety precautions. The typical work schedule is 6:00 A.M. to 2:30 P.M. Monday through Friday. Noise levels are usually normal to moderate; occasionally being loud requiring hearing protection. Requires daily work inside and outside in extreme cold, wet or hot areas. Requires daily work climbing ladders, working in high areas, rooftops, crawl spaces, mechanical rooms, and confined areas with heavy tools and equipment. Must maintain critical availability for emergency repairs especially during extremely cold weather as safety becomes a factor. May be called back after hours, on weekends, and holidays for emergencies, special assignments, snow removal and/or any other activity which requires the position's presence on campus and/or at the assigned work station. Call back assignments are at the discretion of the Building Maintenance Supervisor, or the Assistant Facility Operations Director.
Physical Demands:
The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; climb, bend, kneel, and crouch. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk, while carrying tools and equipment and is required to access and work on roofs where drainage and HVAC systems are installed. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include those needed to operate College vehicles and equipment, see close-up, differentiate color, have peripheral vision and depth perception.
