Shop Assistant - Vermeer Great Plains 100% Employee-Owned | Service Support At Vermeer Great Plains, we're more than a dealership — we're a 100% employee-owned company supporting industries like tree care, landscaping, recycling, underground construction, and mining across Kansas, Oklahoma, and Western Missouri. Train. Motivate. Retain. We're looking for a Shop Assistant to support our Service Department. This role is perfect for someone who wants to get hands-on experience in equipment service, keep operations running smoothly, and learn the basics of the industry while working alongside experienced technicians. What You'll Do Assist Service Technicians and the Service Manager with daily shop operations. Greet customers and perform machine intake procedures. Open work orders, update schedules, and upload photos of equipment. Help maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety in the shop and employee areas. Clean and organize shop tools and equipment. Perform HDD tooling/piercing tool repairs. Operate equipment as needed. Stay current on industry skills and training opportunities. Follow all company safety rules and procedures.
What It Takes Education/Experience:
High School diploma/GED + 1 year of experience in a shop, service, or related role (equipment operator experience preferred).
Skills:
Mechanical aptitude, problem-solving ability, strong organization, and safe work habits.
Tools/Tech:
Comfortable with MS Office and basic hand tools.
Physical Requirements:
Able to lift 50+ lbs, work in all weather conditions, and handle high-noise environments.
Credentials:
Valid unrestricted driver's license; background check, drug test, and clean driving record required.
