(OSI) is an established provider of water and wastewater operations, maintenance, and technical services. We manage, operate, maintain, and develop solutions for municipal, commercial, industrial, and private utility clients throughout Michigan and several other states. Our services include water and wastewater system operations, specialized treatment plant services, industrial pretreatment, utility management, laboratory and sampling services, customer billing, and the installation, repair, and maintenance of municipal pump stations, sanitary lift stations, and Environment One (E/One) residential grinder pump systems. Position Summary OSI is seeking an experienced Pump and Lift Station Technician based at our Waters, Michigan facility. This position is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, rebuilding, installing, and maintaining municipal pump stations, sanitary sewer lift stations, and E/One residential grinder pump systems. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical, electrical, and plumbing skills and be comfortable troubleshooting pumps, motors, control panels, floats, alarms, valves, piping, and related equipment. Work will be performed in the field and at OSI's pump repair facility. The technician will work independently and as part of a crew and must exercise sound judgment when diagnosing equipment failures, selecting repair methods, and determining the tools, parts, and materials needed to complete assignments safely and efficiently. The position includes direct interaction with municipal representatives, utility personnel, contractors, property managers, and residents. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Make safety the highest priority by following OSI safe work practices, standard operating procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements. Inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and install municipal pump stations and sanitary sewer lift stations. Troubleshoot, repair, replace, and install E/One residential grinder pump stations and related equipment. Remove, disassemble, inspect, repair, rebuild, test, and reinstall pumps, motors, valves, and related mechanical components. Troubleshoot electrical control panels, motor starters, relays, contactors, floats, level controls, alarms, disconnects, and related components. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and operational problems and recommend appropriate repairs or equipment replacement. Perform preventive maintenance on pumps, lift stations, grinder pump systems, and associated equipment. Respond to pump failures, high-level alarms, backups, power failures, storm events, and other utility emergencies. Operate company vehicles and specialized equipment for which the employee is properly trained and authorized. Use required safety equipment, including atmospheric monitors, fall-protection equipment, personal protective equipment, and confined-space equipment. Participate in confined-space work when properly trained, equipped, and authorized. Install pumps, piping, valves, controls, and other utility equipment. Assist with bypass pumping, wet-well cleaning, equipment removal, and emergency repair activities. Collect water or wastewater samples and complete basic field testing when assigned. Maintain accurate service records, inspection forms, equipment histories, photographs, inventory records, and daily work logs. Identify required parts, tools, and materials and assist with maintaining shop and service-truck inventory. Communicate findings, recommended repairs, and equipment conditions clearly to supervisors and customers. Investigate and help resolve customer service requests and complaints professionally. Coordinate with contractors and provide field oversight when assigned. Maintain company tools, vehicles, testing equipment, and work areas in a clean and serviceable condition. Assist with general utility maintenance, construction, and repair work as needed. Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. At least two years of relevant experience involving pumps, lift stations, grinder pump systems, industrial maintenance, electrical controls, plumbing, or mechanical repair. Working knowledge of pumps, motors, valves, piping, electrical controls, and basic wastewater collection system operation. Ability to read wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, pump curves, technical drawings, and basic construction plans. Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment safely and systematically. Ability to use hand tools, power tools, electrical meters, testing equipment, and specialty pump-repair tools. Valid Michigan driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Ability to use email, electronic calendars, mobile devices, work-order systems, and other job-related software. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with customers, residents, coworkers, contractors, and public officials. Ability to participate in an after-hours on-call rotation and respond to emergency service calls. Ability to travel to customer locations throughout Michigan as required. Preferred Qualifications Experience maintaining municipal wastewater lift stations or pump stations. Experience repairing and maintaining Environment One (E/One) grinder pump systems. Experience rebuilding submersible, centrifugal, or grinder pumps. Experience troubleshooting single-phase and three-phase electrical systems and pump control panels. Experience with bypass pumping, confined-space work, wastewater collection systems, or utility construction. Michigan wastewater operator certification or the ability and willingness to obtain applicable certifications. CDL, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, or other relevant trade training or certifications. Work Schedule and On-Call Responsibilities This is a full-time position generally scheduled for 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. The position requires participation in an on-call rotation and may include evening, weekend, holiday, and emergency work. Extended shifts may occasionally be required during equipment failures, storm events, sanitary sewer emergencies, or other urgent conditions. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements This position regularly involves work around wastewater, sewage, chemicals, electrical equipment, rotating equipment, traffic, uneven terrain, and open wet wells. Work may be performed indoors or outdoors during adverse weather conditions. The employee must be able to: Work in wet, dirty, dusty, hot, humid, cold, noisy, or odorous environments. Work outdoors during rain, snow, heat, cold, and other inclement weather. Frequently stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, reach, push, and pull. Safely lift and move equipment or materials weighing up to 75 pounds, with assistance or lifting equipment used when appropriate. Climb ladders and work around pump stations, wet wells, tanks, and utility structures. Wear required personal protective equipment for extended periods. Work near wastewater, moving machinery, energized equipment, and other industrial hazards. Maintain concentration while troubleshooting equipment, completing technical records, reading plans, and performing detailed repair work. Work extended shifts during emergency conditions, including occasional shifts of 12 hours or longer.
