Job Description

General Statement of Duties Safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment. Incumbents may service and make minor repairs to equipment. Employees in this class may serve as a lead worker or working supervisor. Essential Duties Serves as a lead worker or working supervisor, and acts as foreman during absence/vacation/other leave.
  • Ability to supervise installation of fences, signs, etc.
  • Operates a skidsteer, backhoe, trackhoe, dump truck, grading tractor, power rake, and other large equipment.
  • Operates various pieces of landscape equipment for facility grounds.
  • Ability to operate hydroseeder, straw blower, chipper, and bucket lift.
  • Ability to remove and trim trees (including stump grinding).
  • Works to install/repair/layout/and plan for purchase of materials for exterior surfaces (including fencing, signage, landscaping, etc.)
  • Monitors leave requests, time cards, work order paperwork, and approves invoices for payment as needed (when foreman is on leave).
  • Trains new Equipment Operator II's in all trades to obtain their Commericial Drivers License (Class A and B)
  • Operates a variety of heavy snow removal equipment when needed.
  • Services and makes minor repairs to equipment.
  • Performs overtime work and other duties as required.
  • Attends work daily, engaged and on-task
  • regular attendance is required
  • Self auditing practices in safety awareness and procedures.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
  • This is an essential position which requires the employee to report for work during inclement weather or at varying times for emergencies.
Additional Information This vacancy is open until filled and is available for the 26-27SY. This is a 12 month, 8 hours per day, 260 day position. Minimum salary is $53,975.06 ($25.95 hourly) or based on promotion policy for internal candidates. Salary is prorated based on official start date. Work hours are 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Henrico County Schools reserves the right to begin screening applications and make a selection at any time during the posting period. Minimum Requirements High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of three years experience operating heavy equipment (both on-road and off-road) . Valid Commercial Driver's license with a Class A endorsement issued by the State of Virginia. Knowledge of the standard practices, methods and materials used in grounds/landscape construction and/or maintenance. Good physical condition required; ability to work at high altitudes; ability to work outdoors and in inclement weather.
