SPMT Operator / Rigger Edwards Moving and Rigging Atlanta, GA Job Details Full-time 1 day ago Qualifications Load securing rigging method Rigging attachment techniques Full Job Description SPMT Operator / Rigger -Competitive Salary- Atlanta, GA The Role The SPMT Operator / Rigger serves as the supervisor in charge in the absence of the Foreman/Superintendent and is responsible for equipment loadout as directed, both in the yard before mobilization and at the job site before demobilization. This role leads by example, provides day-to-day direction to Riggers and Apprentices, and ensures work is completed in accordance with Edwards Moving & Rigging's safety standards, engineering plans, and operational procedures. Overall project supervision remains the responsibility of the Foreman.
Key Responsibilities:
Crew Leadership Direct and support the daily work of Riggers and Apprentices. Serve as the working leader of the crew while actively participating in field operations. Ensure assigned tasks, work priorities, and safety expectations are clearly understood. Mentor less experienced employees in rigging techniques, equipment operation, and company procedures. Promote teamwork and maintain a productive work environment. Rigging and Equipment Perform advanced rigging involving heavy equipment, transformers, industrial components, and oversized loads. Assist with equipment loading, unloading, positioning, jacking, lifting, and movement operations. Ensure rigging equipment is properly selected, inspected, and used according to company standards. Safely operate qualified equipment, including forklifts, skid steers, hydraulic tools, hoists, gantry cranes, Goldhofer platform trailers, and hydraulic jacking and slide systems. Inspect tools and equipment before use and report defects or maintenance concerns. Job Execution and Communication Carry out work in accordance with engineering drawings, lift plans, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and company procedures. Monitor productivity while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. Identify and communicate hazards, equipment issues, manpower needs, and project progress to the Foreman/Superintendent. Coordinate crew activities to improve efficiency and assist with site preparation, housekeeping, and demobilization. Safety Lead by example by following all company safety policies and PPE requirements. Ensure crew members follow safe work practices and stop work when unsafe conditions exist. Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and job hazard reviews. Immediately report accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions. The Person Minimum 3-5 years of heavy rigging or related industry experience. Demonstrated proficiency in advanced rigging techniques. Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring skills. Thorough understanding of heavy rigging practices, load securement, equipment movement, and rigging hardware. Ability to read and interpret lift plans, rigging plans, engineering drawings, and job instructions. Experience operating forklifts, skid steers, hydraulic equipment, jack and slide systems, Goldhofer platform trailers, hydraulic gantry systems, and similar construction equipment is preferred. Sound judgment, professionalism, and a strong commitment to Edwards Moving & Rigging's safety culture. Successful completion of the company Leadman development and evaluation process. Level 1 Rigger Certification required; Level 2 certification preferred or actively being pursued. This position involves regular outdoor field work in active construction and heavy rigging environments. Duties include standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, balancing, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, and performing physically demanding work. Frequent travel to project sites is required based on operational needs.
