RIGGER/OPERATOR -1ST

FUNCTION
The rigger/operator is responsible for the safe operation of a hydraulic and/or crawler crane. Hand levers and foot controls are manipulated to raise and lower the crane boom and the load line, and to steer and rotate the chassis while moving structural components and materials within the shipyard. They may also assist in the maintenance of their crane/mobile equipment and will participate in doing some of their own rigging.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities: Selects cables, spreader bars, plate clamps and shackles according to weight and size of load to be moved. Attaches shackle and cable assemblies to structural components or modules and to the crane hook. Gives directions to workers and material handlers to ensure safe movement of structural components and materials within the shipyard.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of hand signals given by riggers in the movement of structural components or material. Knowledge of the weight and size of loads in their relationship to proper placement of clamps or shackles used in lifting. Knowledge and experience in the operation of hydraulic/crawler crane and other mobile equipment.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE & TRAINING
Prior experience rigging heavy loads. 5 years min. experience in shipyard as rigger and machine operator, master rigging certificate preferred, and extend-a-boom forklift certified. Must have working Knowledge Flagging and directing multiple crawler cranes and set up for heavy lift needed. Must be familiar with crane load charts and ability to read loads and radius constraints. Must be willing to work overtime as production needs require. This position is for day shift.
