$28/hr Job Description This role combines firewatch and skilled carpentry responsibilities to support ship repair activities on a submarine base. You construct and maintain temporary structures such as staging, scaffolding, blocking, decking, shelters, and plenums that enable safe and efficient repair work, including tasks associated with nuclear and radiological operations. You also perform alignment work using optical equipment to support navigation systems and related components. Responsibilities Construct keel blocking, cradles, shoring, cribbing, staging and other temporary structures to safely support ship repair activities, including work associated with nuclear and radiological operations. Erect and dismantle staging and scaffolding on dry-docked and waterborne ships, including structures around the sail, stern, and within internal tanks. Build, install, and remove all types of temporary platforms required for ship repair and maintenance work. Build shelters and plenums and install temporary blocking to protect work areas and support repair operations. Maintain, adjust, and repair staging, scaffolding, and associated equipment to ensure safe and reliable use. Lay out, manufacture, and install temporary decking aboard ships to provide safe access and work surfaces. Regularly inspect staging, scaffolding, platforms, and related equipment to identify any discrepancies that may compromise safety, and take appropriate corrective actions. Notify the appropriate authority of safety discrepancies and document corrective actions taken to resolve issues. Align and check navigation lights to ensure proper operation and positioning. Operate optical transits and auto levels to set and verify alignment benchmarks. Set and align binnacles and compasses and establish benchmarks to support accurate navigation and shipboard systems. Work safely from manlifts, scaffolds, platforms, and pipe staging while adhering to all applicable safety regulations and procedures. Essential Skills Training, qualifications, and experience performing all tasks and working with components similar to those outlined for TSD A5 ship repair carpentry and staging work. Proven experience operating and working from a manlift (also known as JLG) in a shipyard or industrial environment. Demonstrated ability to erect, maintain, and remove pipe staging, including installation and removal of life rails, platforms, and access structures. Training, qualification, and medical fitness to wear respiratory protection devices in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.134 (Subpart I). Training and qualification to wear safety harnesses and work from scaffolds and platforms where drop-off exceeds 5 feet, in accordance with 29 CFR 1915 (Subpart I). Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in staging, scaffolding, construction, installation, and carpentry in a shipyard, marine, or industrial setting. Strong understanding of safe work practices when supporting nuclear and radiological-related ship repair tasks. Ability to use optical transits and auto levels for alignment and benchmark establishment. Attention to detail and strong safety mindset when inspecting and maintaining temporary structures. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Silverdale, WA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $28.00/hr.
