Job Description
A Sheet Metal Fabricator is responsible for measuring, cutting, bending, forming, assembling, and welding various types of metal materials to create custom products, equipment enclosures, boxes, ductwork, brackets, panels, and structural components. This position requires the ability to read blueprints and fabrication drawings, operate fabrication machinery, and maintain high-quality workmanship while meeting production schedules.
Primary Responsibilities:
Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, work orders, and specifications. Measure and mark metal materials accurately for fabrication. Operate press brakes, shears, rollers, ironworkers, punches, saws, and other fabrication equipment. Bend, form, and shape sheet metal according to design specifications. Fabricate custom metal boxes, cabinets, enclosures, brackets, frames, and specialty components. Assemble fabricated parts using welding, riveting, bolting, or fastening methods. Perform MIG, TIG, or stick welding as required. Grind, sand, and finish fabricated products to ensure quality standards are met. Verify dimensions and tolerances using measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, squares, and micrometers. Inspect finished products for accuracy, fit, and overall quality. Load, unload, and move materials using forklifts, cranes, or other material handling equipment. Maintain fabrication equipment and perform routine maintenance. Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE). Keep work areas clean and organized. Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and fellow team members to complete projects efficiently. Troubleshoot fabrication issues and recommend improvements to production processes.
Required Skills:
Ability to read and understand fabrication drawings and blueprints. Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication techniques and processes. Experience operating press brakes, shears, rollers, and fabrication machinery. Strong measuring and layout skills. Welding and metal assembly experience. Ability to work with steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and other metals. Strong attention to detail and quality control. Ability to lift heavy materials and work in a manufacturing environment. Good problem-solving and mechanical aptitude.
Physical Requirements:
Frequently lift and carry materials up to 50 pounds or more. Stand, bend, kneel, and work in physically demanding conditions for extended periods. Work around fabrication machinery, welding equipment, and industrial tools. Ability to work overtime when production demands require.
