Job Description for a Sheet Metal Detailer Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Sheet Metal Detailer to prepare accurate fabrication and installation drawings for commercial HVAC and sheet metal projects. This position works closely with project managers, estimators, field teams, and fabrication personnel to ensure designs are constructible, coordinated, and meet project requirements. Key Responsibilities Develop detailed shop drawings and fabrication drawings for commercial HVAC and sheet metal systems. Create accurate layouts for ductwork, fittings, equipment, piping, and related mechanical components. Utilize AutoCAD, Revit, or other BIM/CAD software to produce detailed drawings and 3D models. Review architectural, structural, and mechanical plans to identify conflicts and coordinate installations. Perform field verification and incorporate existing conditions into drawings when required. Coordinate designs with project managers, engineers, general contractors, and other trades. Prepare drawings for fabrication and installation while ensuring accuracy and constructability. Participate in BIM coordination and clash detection processes. Interpret project specifications, contract documents, and applicable codes and standards. Make revisions based on field conditions, RFIs, change orders, and project updates. Maintain organized drawing files and ensure revisions are properly documented. Communicate effectively with fabrication and field personnel to resolve design and installation issues Qualifications 2+ years of experience in sheet metal detailing, HVAC detailing, mechanical drafting, or BIM coordination preferred. Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC ductwork, fittings, equipment, and sheet metal construction. Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Revit ; experience with Navisworks or similar coordination software is a plus. Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and mechanical drawings. Understanding of sheet metal fabrication and field installation processes. Knowledge of SMACNA standards and commercial mechanical construction practices preferred. Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate, constructible drawings. Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. What Success Looks Like The successful Sheet Metal Detailer will produce accurate, coordinated, and fabrication-ready drawings that help projects stay on schedule and minimize field issues. This individual will be detail-oriented, technically capable, and comfortable collaborating with both office and field teams.
