•Friday) About Us Windfree is a commercial and residential solar EPC based in Chicago, providing installation, commissioning, and ongoing operations & maintenance (O&M) services across Illinois. We're growing our field service team and looking for a hands-on technician who takes ownership of site performance and can troubleshoot issues independently. About the Role We're looking for an O&M Service Technician to perform commissioning, preventive maintenance, and reactive service on commercial and residential solar sites across our portfolio. This role requires someone comfortable working independently in the field, diagnosing issues across a range of inverter platforms, and driving high first-visit resolution rates. What You'll Do Perform commissioning and startup on new commercial solar installations Conduct routine preventive maintenance and reactive service calls on commercial and residential sites Identify recurring or systemic issues across sites and flag patterns to the O&M team rather than just clearing the immediate fault Diagnose and resolve inverter faults across SMA, SolarEdge, Chint (CPS) and Enphase platforms Troubleshoot and resolve communications issues, including both cellular gateway/kit and hardwire connection setups Maintain a high resolution rate on assigned tickets, minimizing repeat truck rolls Document all site visits thoroughly — findings, parts used, and resolution details — in our ticketing/monitoring system Communicate professionally with clients and site contacts during visits Follow all safety protocols, including proper PPE use and lockout/tagout procedures What We're Looking For 2-3 years of experience commissioning and servicing commercial and residential solar systems Hands-on experience with SMA, SolarEdge, Chint/CPS inverters and Enphase microinverters Experience resolving communications/monitoring issues (cellular kit and hardwire connections) Strong electrical troubleshooting skills; comfortable using a multimeter and standard diagnostic tools A proactive, self-starter mindset — someone who identifies problems before they escalate and doesn't need to be told twice Strong problem-solving skills and the judgment to work independently on-site Valid driver's license and ability to travel to commercial and residential sites across Chicagoland including satelitte states Wisconsin and Indiana OSHA 10 or 30 certification required Comfortable working at heights, on rooftops, and in varied outdoor conditions Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and climb ladders as needed Compensation & Benefits $40
