Job Description
Purpose of the Position Under the supervision of the plant install manager, the plant installer is responsible for installing assigned interiorscape/exteriorscape projects within an allotted time frame, by using accepted horticultural techniques in an efficient, safe, and timely manner, while representing Billy Heroman's with outstanding class and character out in the field. When coming into contact with the public, installers should reflect the company philosophy of providing complete customer satisfaction. Essential Functions/Job Responsibilities
- Installing, watering and fertilizing all plants and containers as necessary
- Leaving all plants cleaned, trimmed and oriented to proper light
- Removing any damaged or unsightly foliage
- Removing debris from worksite and leaving worksite in a neat and orderly manner during all phases of install
- Preventing damage to surrounding floors, walls and furniture from water and/or moisture
- Inspecting to assure all plants are free from disease and insects
- Installing wicking, risers, liners, staging and top dressing for proper care and presentation, understanding the differences in interior and exterior environments and set ups
- Daily check in at the start and completion of the work day
- Working with Sales and General Manager to be fully informed of all aspects of project or daily duties
- Attendance at regular training sessions
- Proper documentation of work orders and service records
- Timely communication to supervisor, technician and sales consultant regarding installation problems or concerns
- Friendly, professional communication with client contact
- Proper maintenance and safe use of company tools, equipment and vehicles
- Securing all installation related supplies and equipment, keeping them repaired and in good working condition. Including but not limited to moss, foam, wicking, soil, bark, etc.
- Pull, prepare and load all needed supplies for each day's planned tasks
- Understanding and following vehicle parking procedure (including placement, etc.) for the beginning and end of each day.
- Checking vehicle used visually daily; checking for minor maintenance issues
- Ensuring vehicle has at all times - gas card, insurance card, vehicle registration, spare tire and necessary tools to change tire, emergency kit, jumper cables, water, necessary tools, fertilizers and pesticides; door tags
- Serving as plant technician if needed
- Having or acquiring a working knowledge of all plant names, their water/light/fertilizer requirements and knowledge of all client accounts, locations and plant locations
- Acquiring knowledge of delivery and proper placement for short term rentals
- Bringing repeat replacements or potential problems to the attention of your supervisor
- Recognizing plant material varieties, interior and exterior
- Cross-train as an Interior/Exterior Plant Technician
- Developing awareness and knowledge of client locations, inventories and pertinent history
- Proper operation of forklift, scissor lift, boom lift, pruners, saws, irrigation systems and other necessary equipment
- Acquiring knowledge of proper pruning techniques for larger palms and other tree varieties
- Completing seasonal color rotation for interior and exterior plantscapes Competencies Self-motivation Communication Proficiency Problem Solving Ability to Multi-task Attention to Detail Time Management Computer skills Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age or older for insurance purposes.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of plant care requirements or related experience (preferred).
- Able to read a map and a GPS
- Knowledge of city streets in our service areas
- Must have clean, valid, driver's license in good standing
- Must be able to pass any necessary background, drug and TB checks required
- Able to work in varying greenhouse and/or office conditions
- Able to make decisions, communicate professionally and effectively, take direction from management and be able to work unsupervised productively when on client sites
- Knowledge of plant care requirements or related experience or qualifying education preferred, but not required Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
