Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding role as a Sign Language Interpreter in an educational environment, supporting students and staff with essential communication needs. This contract opportunity is perfect for passionate interpreters eager to make a direct impact within local schools.
Key Qualifications and Desired Experience:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and related interpreting techniques. Experience providing sign language interpretation in school settings or with children preferred. Ability to facilitate understanding between deaf/hard-of-hearing individuals and hearing staff or students. Strong commitment to confidentiality and professional ethics. Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (national or state level) highly valued. Flexibility, patience, and a collaborative mindset.
Role Responsibilities:
Translate spoken or written communication into ASL and vice versa during classroom instruction, meetings, and school events. Foster a supportive classroom environment by ensuring accessible communication for students and staff. Collaborate with educators and other professionals to address individual student needs. Provide interpretation for parent-teacher conferences, assemblies, and extracurricular activities as required. Maintain professionalism in all interactions, adapting to the diverse needs of the school community.
