Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding opportunity where your expertise in sign language interpreting makes a meaningful difference. This contract position is based within the friendly communities of Somerset, Danville, and Berea—just about 60 miles south of Lexington—offering a welcoming environment for both local and out-of-state candidates. If you're passionate about supporting students and educators in school settings, your skills are in high demand.
Desired qualifications:
Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) with experience as an educational interpreter or teacher of ASL Hold a 4.0 EIPA or NIC certification (candidates willing to obtain a Kentucky license are encouraged to apply) Familiarity with K-12 educational environments Strong communication and interpersonal skills, collaborating effectively with students, staff, and families Ability to adapt quickly and maintain confidentiality in all interactions Primary responsibilities: Deliver sign language interpretation services in classroom and school settings Facilitate clear communication between students, teachers, and peers using ASL and voice interpretation Support IEP meetings and various school functions as needed Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and other support professionals to promote an inclusive, accessible learning environment Employ cultural sensitivity and discretion while supporting students' needs and fostering their independence Those relocating from outside Kentucky will appreciate comprehensive guidance through the licensure and onboarding process, ensuring a smooth transition into the state's educational system.
