Job Title:
Assembly Mechanic Job Description This role focuses on assembling industrial shredders and their sub-assemblies by following detailed drawings, written procedures, manufacturers' recommendations, and verbal specifications. You will work with hydraulic and electric-powered systems, perform inspections to determine the condition of parts, set up systems for testing, and prepare equipment for paint and shipment. You will also tear down, inspect, and rebuild systems to ensure they meet quality and performance standards. Responsibilities Assemble and disassemble industrial shredders and their sub-assemblies in accordance with engineering drawings, written procedures, and manufacturers' recommendations. Interpret and follow electrical and hydraulic schematics and blueprints to complete assembly tasks accurately. Work with hydraulic and electric-powered systems, ensuring correct installation, alignment, and functionality. Perform inspections on parts and components to determine their condition and suitability for use. Set up completed systems for testing, verify proper operation, and identify any issues that require adjustment or repair. Break down and prepare systems for paint and/or shipment, ensuring all components are properly protected and documented. Tear down, inspect, and rebuild systems, replacing or repairing components as needed to restore equipment to operational standards. Operate common assembly equipment such as torches, pneumatic tools, hydraulic jacks, grinders, and pipe fitting/cutting equipment to complete mechanical assembly tasks. Use overhead cranes, jib cranes, forklifts, manlifts, and scissorlifts to safely move and position large or heavy components. Read manufacturing drawings and identify specifications and measurements for parts to ensure accurate assembly and fit. Troubleshoot complex mechanical systems, identify root causes of issues, and implement effective solutions. Apply knowledge of bearings, seals, shafts, and other shredder components to assemble and service equipment correctly. Maintain a high level of organization in the work area and uphold strong housekeeping and cleanliness standards. Work safely at all times by following established safety procedures and using appropriate personal protective equipment. Anticipate and help plan for materials and resources needed for current and upcoming jobs, supporting efficient workflow and minimal downtime. Use hand tools, power tools, and wrenches to assemble and secure mechanical components and fasteners. Handle industrial-sized equipment and heavy mechanical assemblies safely, including lifting up to 50 pounds and up to 15 pounds above shoulder height. Essential Skills Proven ability to assemble and disassemble mechanical sub-components and complete mechanical assemblies. Strong attention to detail and advanced understanding of mechanical systems. Ability to interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics and blueprints. Proficiency in troubleshooting complex mechanical systems and resolving mechanical issues. Solid understanding of bearings, seals, shafts, and other components used in industrial shredders. Demonstrated organizational skills with an acute attention to detail. Ability to operate common assembly equipment, including torches, pneumatic tools, hydraulic jacks, grinders, and pipe fitting/cutting equipment. Ability to read manufacturing drawings and accurately identify specifications and measurements for parts. Capability to manage a work area and maintain high levels of housekeeping and cleanliness. Commitment to working safely at all times and following safety procedures. Ability to operate overhead cranes, jib cranes, forklifts, manlifts, and scissorlifts. Mechanical aptitude, including experience with mechanical assembly and wrenching together mechanical components. Experience working with power tools and hand tools in a mechanical or industrial environment. Experience with industrial-size equipment and heavy mechanical assemblies. Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and up to 15 pounds above shoulder height. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience reading and working from blueprints and schematics in an industrial or manufacturing setting. Experience in mechanical assembly, automotive repair, heavy equipment, or similar mechanically inclined roles. Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including installation and maintenance. Experience working with motors, mechanical drives, and related components. Comfort using a wide range of tools, including wrenches, hand tools, and power tools, for assembly and maintenance. Experience operating cranes and other material-handling equipment in a production or shop environment. Ability to collaborate with team members and communicate clearly about work progress, issues, and resource needs. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a hands-on industrial and manufacturing environment focused on the assembly of large industrial shredders and related systems. You will work with hydraulic and electric-powered equipment, industrial-sized machinery, and a variety of mechanical components. The position requires frequent use of hand tools, power tools, torches, pneumatic tools, hydraulic jacks, grinders, and pipe fitting/cutting equipment, as well as regular operation of overhead cranes, jib cranes, forklifts, manlifts, and scissorlifts. The work involves handling heavy parts and assemblies, with lifting requirements up to 50 pounds and up to 15 pounds above shoulder height. Standard schedules include a day shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and a swing shift from 3:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. Monday through Thursday, with a shift differential offered for swing shift. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wilsonville, OR. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $28.00/hr.
