Job Title:
Burn Table Shop Helper Job Description The Burn Table Shop Helper supports the safe and efficient operation of a burn/laser table in an industrial manufacturing environment. Working a day shift schedule, this role focuses on handling steel plate and finished parts, operating material handling equipment, and assisting with basic machine operations to keep production running smoothly. Responsibilities Assist in the daily operation of the burn/laser table in an industrial manufacturing setting. Utilize overhead crane and jib systems to safely move steel plate and cut parts. Manage steel plate inventory, including identifying, organizing, and tracking material. Load raw steel plate onto the burn/laser table and unload finished parts from the machine. Stack finished parts neatly and safely on pallets for further processing or shipment. Operate a forklift to move raw materials, work-in-process, and finished inventory throughout the shop. Use hand tools and power tools as needed to support cutting, fabrication, and material handling tasks. Read and interpret basic measurements using a tape measure to verify material size and part dimensions. Apply mechanical aptitude and critical thinking skills to troubleshoot minor issues and support problem solving on the shop floor. Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while operating equipment and working around machinery. Maintain a clean, organized work area in and around the burn table and machine shop. Collaborate with machine operators and other team members to meet production goals and quality standards. Essential Skills 1-3 years of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment. Proven mechanical aptitude and strong interest in metal fabrication. Demonstrated interest in assisting with the operation of a burn/laser table. Ability to safely use hand tools and power tools in a machine shop setting. Basic math skills with the ability to accurately read and interpret tape measure measurements. Capability to lift and move 50-75 lbs as part of daily job duties. Comfort working around and assisting with machine operation and fabrication processes. Ability to demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills in a production environment. Willingness to work a day shift schedule, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in industrial manufacturing, steel manufacturing, or metal fabrication environments. Familiarity with machine shop practices and machine operating. Exposure to burn tables, laser cutting, plasma cutting, and plasma torch operation. Ability to read and understand basic blueprints or shop drawings. Experience using cranes, jibs, and forklifts for material handling. Comfort working with industrial manufacturing tools and equipment, including manual and powered tools. Interest in learning laser operation and further developing fabrication skills. Work Environment The role is based in an open industrial machine shop with open bay doors, providing a traditional fabrication and manufacturing setting. The work involves regular exposure to active machinery, including burn/laser tables, cranes, jibs, forklifts, and other fabrication equipment. Team members handle steel plate and finished metal parts, use hand tools and power tools, and work on their feet for most of the shift. The schedule is a day shift, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., supporting a consistent work routine. Appropriate industrial work attire is expected to support safety and comfort in a machine shop environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wilsonville, OR. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
