Job Description
Summary Webster County High School is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our music department as a Full-Time Assistant Band Director. The ideal candidate will support the Head Band Director in all aspects of the band program, fostering a positive and inclusive environment for students to develop their musical talents. This role requires strong leadership skills, a commitment to student success, and a collaborative spirit to enhance the overall educational experience through music. Responsibilities Assist the Head Band Director in planning, organizing, and conducting rehearsals for various band ensembles, including concert, marching, and jazz bands. Provide individual and group instruction to students on their respective instruments, focusing on skill development and performance techniques. Help coordinate and supervise band events, including concerts, competitions, and community performances. Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that align with state and national music education standards. Support the recruitment and retention of students in the band program through outreach and promotional activities. Collaborate with other music faculty and school staff to integrate music education across the curriculum. Maintain instruments and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition for student use. Assist in managing the band budget, including fundraising efforts and procurement of necessary supplies. Attend professional development workshops and conferences to stay current with best practices in music education. Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages student participation and teamwork. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field. Valid teaching certification in music education or eligibility for certification. Experience in conducting and teaching band ensembles at the high school level is preferred. Proficiency in playing multiple band instruments, with a strong emphasis on brass, woodwinds, and percussion. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire students. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and the community. A passion for music education and a commitment to fostering a love of music in students. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends for rehearsals, performances, and events as needed.
