  • Full-time Cato Corner Farm, a family-owned dairy farm named one of the "Top 50 Cheesemakers in the U.
S." by , is seeking a motivated individual to join our cheese making team.
Primary responsibilities include:
  • Cheesemaking
  • Work alongside our cheesemakers to make a variety of aged and fresh cheeses.
  • Cleaning
  • Assist with general cleanup of cheese plant, cheese making equipment, farmers' market equipment, and the milk tank.
  • Cheese Care
  • Flip, move and help take care of cheese in our aging caves.
  • Orders / Packaging
  • Help prepare orders and package cheese for both wholesale and mail order customers.
  • Food Safety
  • Assist with implementation of our food safety plans.
Follow established protocols for food handling and cleaning. Help keep records of food safety procedures. The Assistant Cheesemaker Position is Monday through Friday, 37-40 hours per week.
Starting Salary:
$17
  • $20 per hour depending on experience with food or cheese making, paid vacation and sick time, and discounts on cheese and other farm products.
The farm participates in My CT Savings for employees interested in saving for retirement. We offer excellent first-hand involvement in cheese making, a dedicated staff and fun work environment, and exposure to all the aspects of running a cheese business. Experience and Skills
  • Applicants should be enthusiastic, hard-working and eager to learn. You must be able to work calmly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • You must have strong communication skills and work well with others.
  • Cheese making is a "glorified cleaning job." Be prepared to spend lots of time cleaning
  • it is critical to making a safe food product!
  • This is physical work
  • you must be in a fit condition with a strong back. You will be on your feet all day (often in warm, humid conditions), and you will lift 40 pounds or more frequently.
  • Candidates should have some experience or familiarity with cooking or food production. Applicants should be committed to local, sustainable food.
  • Knowledge of our cheese or of cheese making/dairying is not necessary, but you should enjoy cheese and take pride in making high quality cheeses.
