Collector/Treasurer This job posting will be open for not less than two (2) weeks and, if needed, will remain open until a finalist has been selected.
General Description :
Position is responsible for assisting the Collector in performing tax collection and performing diversified receiving, recording, balancing, and reconciling of receipts; as well as customer service by phone, in-person, by email, and other methods.
Primary Essential Functions :
The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various type of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position. Coordinate issuance and mailing of tax billings for Real Estate, Personal Property, Motor Vehicles and Utilities. Prepare delinquency notices when appropriate. Maintain all delinquent Motor Vehicle and Personal Property taxes. Process daily receipts, balance, and reconcile various payments, post receipts, and issue refunds as necessary. Communicate address and name changes, returned mail and other pertinent information to the Assessor's office. Maintain records and files. Assists with managing the tax title process including letters of delinquency, notice of advertising, process forms, and file paperwork. Perform back-up functions including water/sewer posting and inquiries, Municipal Lien Certificates and daily deposit. Respond to inquiries regarding tax questions. Maintain Water/Sewer Betterments; outstanding payments, betterment releases. Research bankruptcy cases and file required forms. Load, maintain files and generate reports for online banking. Manage credit card transactions and reports. Manage lockbox transaction files and reports. Oversee and assist with water shut off program. Provide counter and phone coverage for the department. Back-up functions of the Assistant Treasurer when necessary. Performs similar or related work as required.
Education and Experience :
Associates Degree with business or finance courses strongly preferred. One to three years of relative experience in a responsible administrative position, three to five years of experience working in a municipal setting preferred, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
