Job Description
The hiring salary for this position is $100,000. CIA. POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Health Services, the Assistant Director serves as a nursing leader and clinical resource to other members of the health care team. The Assistant Director has responsibility for providing comprehensive health care and demonstrates professional maturity in clinical judgment, responding to health care concerns. This role oversees supervision of the nursing staff, ultimately promoting excellence in the delivery of health care and expanded community skills and knowledge. The Assistant Director of Health Services is responsible for assisting the Director in managing the overall operation of the student Health Office for the Culinary Institute of America (CIA's) Hyde Park campus. In collaboration with the Director, the Assistant Director will work closely with campus colleagues and stakeholders to promote a comprehensive vision for the health and wellness of students, to build excellence that supports and sustains a healthy campus environment.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Director, provide leadership, supervision, training, and evaluation of the clinic staff including all Full-time and Per Diem Nurses and Medical Assistants. Oversee the screening of medical records of all incoming students, ensuring compliance with immunizations, health insurance, and state and federal regulations. Assist the Director in establishing and developing a campus-wide agenda to advance the health of students and promote student success through the development, implementation, and supervision of the department's strategic plan, goals and measurable objectives. Ensure that all treatment administered by nurses is consistent with clinical impressions and working diagnoses, including prescribing of medications for medical and mental health conditions. Devise, implement, and evaluate plans of care utilizing sound clinical judgments based on assessment of the physical, psychological, emotional, societal, and environmental needs of the clients. Utilize medical diagnostic / testing equipment as appropriate. Assist individuals to assume responsibility for the prevention of illness and the promotion, maintenance, and restoration of health. Consult, refer, and collaborate with other disciplines involved in the delivery of total client care. Promote the standards set and maintained for Health Services policies, procedures and protocols and all standards as measured against best practices for campus and student health. Serve in the on-call rotation for Health Services Office. Identify strategies for fostering student engagement in health promotion and prevention efforts. In collaboration with the Director, conduct environmental assessments of student health needs and resources, analyze and use results to guide programmatic decisions. Research best practices and services at other institutions and implement new initiatives based on this knowledge matched with the unique nature of the CIA campus community. Coordinate and oversee wellness in-services/programs/initiatives, and provide resources to students, faculty and staff that directly relate to health and wellness. Under the Director's vision, provide consultation and direction for campus prevention initiatives that focus on the most significant risk factors for students, including alcohol and other drug use, stress management, violence, and sexual assault prevention. Assist with testing projects when needed. Monitor, inventory, and order supplies. Evaluate and treat students in the health service clinic as needed. Any and all other duties assigned.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Nursing or equivalent experience.Experience:
Five to seven (5-7) years of nursing experience within an educational environment. Previous supervisory experience developing and managing professional nursing staff. Licenses /Certifications:
NYS Registered Nurse License required. Current Basic Life Saving (BLS) certification.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in a college or higher education setting. Health promotion and disease prevention program planning experience.REQUIRED SKILLS
Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving skills in analyzing health promotion needs of a diverse community of college students. Knowledge of HIPAA, FERPA and other legal requirements and standards. Familiarity with health promotion campaigns and health communications strategies. Demonstrated ability to show a high level of service responsiveness to students, guests and other campus partners. Ability to use an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system. Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills required. Ability to lead, integrate, encourage and motivate a high-functioning team; effective team building skills. Strong, direct and positive interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in team settings, with senior leadership and with a diverse range of internal and external colleagues. Must display a high level of energy and self-motivation. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize and consistently meet deadlines.WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be available to work nights and weekends as required due to business needs. Work requires the ability to work at a computer, sometimes in excess of eight (8) hours per day. Work is performed primarily in a health services environment. Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds independently, up to one hundred (100) pounds with assistance. Regular work requires standing and bending when conducting medical examinations. Ability to transport patients in a wheelchair. Ability to physically respond to ill and/or injured students in other areas of the campus.
