Assistant Director/Director Designee

Assistant Director / Director Designee Happy Start Learning Center is now hiring an Assistant Director / Director Designee. We are seeking a dependable, professional, and organized individual to assist with the daily operations of our licensed child care facility. The Assistant Director will support the Director with staff supervision, parent communication, classroom support, records, licensing compliance, and maintaining a safe, positive environment for children.

Full-time Minimum Qualifications Applicants must have: High school diploma or GED Minimum of 1-2 years of paid experience in a licensed child care facility or licensed/accredited kindergarten program Child Development Associate credential, MDHS Director Credential, or coursework/experience in a child care-related field preferred Completion of, or willingness to complete, required Mississippi child care trainings, including: New Director Orientation Playground Safety Rules and Regulations Current CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain Ability to pass required background checks and child abuse registry checks Knowledge of Mississippi child care licensing standards preferred Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills Ability to work professionally with children, parents, staff, licensing officials, and administration Dependable attendance and ability to work Monday through Friday Ability to maintain confidentiality of child, family, and staff information Basic computer, filing, and recordkeeping skills Preferred Qualifications Preference may be given to applicants with: Experience assisting with child care licensing visits or compliance documentation Experience supervising or leading child care staff Experience maintaining child files, staff files, attendance records, and training documentation Knowledge of staff-to-child ratios and classroom supervision requirements Experience communicating with parents and resolving concerns professionally Early childhood education, child development, elementary education, or related coursework Experience using child care management systems or basic office software Responsibilities The Assistant Director will help with: Supporting the Director in daily center operations Assisting with staff supervision, scheduling, and classroom coverage Ensuring staff-to-child ratios are maintained Helping maintain compliance with Mississippi child care licensing rules and regulations Assisting with child files, staff files, training records, attendance, and other required documentation Communicating with parents and families in a professional manner Supporting classroom routines and child supervision when needed Helping maintain a safe, clean, and organized child care environment Assisting with licensing visits, inspections, and corrective action follow-up as directed Promoting a positive, respectful, and nurturing environment for children and staff How to Apply Interested applicants should submit a resume and copies of any child care training certificates, credentials, or related coursework for consideration.
