12 Months Position Summary The Assistant Principal supports the Principal in fostering a safe, inclusive, and high-performing learning environment that promotes academic excellence and student growth. This role involves instructional leadership, student discipline, staff support, and operational management aligned with the mission and strategic goals of Weldon City Schools. The Assistant Principal plays a key role in cultivating a positive school culture and ensuring equitable outcomes for all students. Key Responsibilities Instructional Leadership Support the implementation of district curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessment practices Conduct classroom observations and provide actionable feedback to teachers Use student performance data to guide instructional improvement and interventions Assist in the development and facilitation of professional learning for staff School Culture & Climate Promote a positive, inclusive, and culturally responsive school environment Build strong relationships with students, staff, families, and community stakeholders Support initiatives that enhance student engagement, attendance, and well-being Student Discipline & Support Oversee student behavior management systems in alignment with district policies Implement restorative practices and interventions to support student growth Collaborate with counselors, MTSS teams, and support staff to address student needs Operations & Management Assist with daily school operations, including scheduling, supervision, and safety procedures Coordinate testing administration and compliance with state and district requirements Support emergency preparedness and school safety protocols Family & Community Engagement Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and school initiatives Partner with community organizations to enhance educational opportunities Represent the school at events and meetings as needed Equity & Continuous Improvement Champion equity-focused practices that address achievement gaps Participate in school improvement planning and monitoring progress toward goals Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal policies Qualifications
Required:
Master's degree in School Administration, Educational Leadership, or related field Valid North Carolina Principal or Assistant Principal license (or eligibility) Minimum of 3-5 years of successful teaching experience
Preferred:
Prior leadership experience (e.g., instructional coach, dean, team lead) Experience in urban or diverse school settings Strong background in data-driven instruction and MTSS frameworks Core Competencies Instructional leadership and coaching Strong communication and interpersonal skills Problem-solving and decision-making Cultural responsiveness and equity mindset Organizational and time-management skills Working Conditions Ability to supervise students and staff in various school settings Occasional evening or weekend events Moderate physical activity (e.g., walking through campus, standing for extended periods) Compensation Salary and benefits are aligned with the Weldon City Schools salary schedule and North Carolina state guidelines.
