Exempt Position Summary The Student Services and Communications Coordinator provides strategic leadership and coordination of student support services and district communications to ensure the academic, social-emotional, and physical well-being of all students. This role oversees a comprehensive system of supports, including counseling, social work, health services, safety, mental health, and intervention frameworks, while also managing internal and external communications for the district. The Coordinator ensures alignment of student services with district goals, promotes family and community engagement, and supports a positive and safe learning environment across all schools in Weldon City Schools. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Student Services Leadership Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive student services program addressing academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and health needs. Ensure equitable access to high-quality support services for all students. Coordinate district-wide initiatives that promote student well-being, attendance, and engagement. Lead crisis response and student support planning in collaboration with school administrators. Supervision and Management Directly supervises: School Social Worker(s) School Counselors School Nurses School Resource Officers (in collaboration with law enforcement partners) Mental Health Staff Charger Academy staff MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) framework and personnel Provide leadership, coaching, and evaluation for all assigned staff. Ensure effective collaboration among support services to address student needs holistically. MTSS and Intervention Systems Lead the development and implementation of the district's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework. Monitor intervention effectiveness using student data and adjust strategies as needed. Provide guidance to school teams on tiered interventions and progress monitoring. Charger Academy Oversight Provide leadership and direction for Charger Academy as an alternative or specialized learning program. Ensure alignment with district expectations for academic performance, behavior, and student support. Monitor program outcomes and implement continuous improvement strategies. Mental Health and Wellness Coordinate school-based mental health services and partnerships with community agencies. Ensure compliance with policies related to student health, safety, and wellness. Support trauma-informed practices and social-emotional learning initiatives. School Safety and Student Support Collaborate with School Resource Officers and district leadership to maintain safe school environments. Support development and implementation of safety plans, crisis response protocols, and prevention strategies. Assist with investigations and response to student-related incidents as needed. Communications and Public Relations Develop and implement a district-wide communications plan to effectively share information with students, families, staff, and the community. Manage internal and external communications, including website content, social media, newsletters, and public announcements. Serve as a liaison between the district and community stakeholders to promote transparency and engagement. Support crisis communication efforts and ensure timely, accurate messaging. Family and Community Engagement Promote strong family engagement initiatives that support student success. Coordinate outreach efforts to increase parent and community involvement. Build partnerships with community organizations and service providers. Compliance and Reporting Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws related to student services. Maintain accurate records and prepare required reports. Monitor program effectiveness and provide data-driven recommendations. Professional Development Provide training and support for staff related to student services, MTSS, mental health, and communication practices. Support administrators in implementing student support strategies. Other Duties Serve on district leadership teams and committees. Attend Board of Education meetings and community events as needed. Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Designee. Qualifications Education and Experience Master's degree in School Counseling, Social Work, Educational Leadership, Communications, or related field required. Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in student services, counseling, social work, or related fields. Experience in a K-12 school setting required. Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred. Licensure/Certifications Valid North Carolina licensure in a relevant area (e.g., School Counseling, Social Work, or Communications) required North Carolina School Administrator License (or eligibility) preferred. Additional certifications in leadership, mental health, or communications are a plus. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong knowledge of student services frameworks, including MTSS and social-emotional learning. Understanding of school safety practices and student support systems. Excellent communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple programs and priorities effectively. Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills. Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including families and community partners. High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and cultural competence. Working Conditions Office and school-based environment with frequent travel between schools. Occasional evening and weekend work required for events and crisis response. Evaluation Performance will be evaluated in accordance with North Carolina educator effectiveness standards and local Board of Education policies.
