The Integral Program is a great books program with an all-required sequence of seminars and tutorials; all courses are built around student discussion. INTEGRAL
341, Readings & Pratica Physics & Chemistry, in the traditional undergraduate program in Fall 2026. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:50 - 11:30 am This course will be taught in person on the Moraga campus.
Course Description:
Analysis and interpretation of texts, and enactment of experiments, that proposed the revolution, by "mathematization," of accounts of local motion and alteration/ combination of bodies, which gave us modern physics and chemistry. Students will read primary texts by natural philosophers from the 17th to 19th centuries including works by Gaileo, Pascal, Priestly, Black, Lavoisier, and Dalton.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications Ph.D. (or other terminal degree) in disciplines complementary to the Integral Program curriculum. Academic background or training with the course content in the First-Year Integral Laboratory (INTEG 140), and Integral First-Year Mathematics Tutorial (INTEG 120 and 121), and Integral First-Year Language Tutorial (INTEG 130 and 131). The successful candidate should demonstrate a strong commitment to and experience in student-centered teaching in the liberal arts and Great Books traditions. Preferred Qualifications Academic background or training in the history of physics and chemistry. Familiarity with the course content in
INTEG 420
; familiarity with Newton's Principia. Candidates must reside in California.
Salary:
