Job Description

Position Summary The Associate Dean
  • Career and Technology Instruction is responsible for planning, organizing, managing, and evaluating the respective instructional division.
This responsibility also includes supervising all instructional division instructors, assisting in providing professional development activities, making hiring recommendations, and making necessary modifications to successfully complete activities for the instructional division. The Associate Dean is responsible for working closely with the appropriate Instructional Officer and the Chief Financial Officer in the development and allocation of department budgets and funds. Appropriate placement on the Alabama Community College System salary schedule C1 . Essential Duties and Responsibilities At a minimum, the essential functions of this position shall include: Oversees the supervision of instructional division instructors and coordinates activities of all sites at Coastal Alabama Community College by conducting site visits regularly. Reviews and submits, to the appropriate Instructional Officer, proposed departmental class schedules and teaching loads for all courses over all campuses to ensure student centered schedules for day, night, and online students of all ages. Supervises the planning, budgeting, and expenditures of funds allocated for the respective instructional division. Develops a high level of quality instruction by working with instructors. Maintains oversight for standardization of all instructional division syllabi. Works with Division Chairs to maintain oversight on all Canvas courses within the instructional division. Coordinates with the Director of Institutional Effectiveness and the appropriate Instructional Officer to complete the annual program review process. Coordinates with the Director of Institutional Effectiveness and the appropriate Instructional Officer to complete the annual development, submission, and evaluation of Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) and General Education Outcomes. Works with the appropriate Instructional Officer to maintain oversight of SACSCOC instructional compliance including maintaining oversight for departmental portion of the Dual Enrollment program including instructor orientation, evaluation, and Library Services to meet SACSCOC compliance standards. Observes and evaluates Division Chairs and adjunct instructors in their assigned duties. Participates with the Division Chairs in the orientation of new full-time instructors and adjunct instructors. Coordinates with the Instructional Officers on providing relevant instructor professional development. Reviews textbook adoptions and coordinate all instructional material with the College bookstore. Recommends the hiring of both full-time and adjunct instructors using the recruiting and hiring procedures established by Human Resources. Works with the appropriate Instructional Officer and staff to maintain oversight of developmental studies within the department (if applicable) including course scheduling, instructor professional development, proper placement of students, advising, and retention practices. Works with the appropriate Instructional Officer and other college departments to enhance instructional partnerships and apprenticeships with businesses and industries throughout the College's service area (if applicable). Enriches instructional services to provide support for the state-wide credentialing initiatives. Presides over departmental meetings and submit copies of the minutes to the appropriate Instructional Officer. Processes all requisitions for equipment, materials, and supplies for the respective department and submit them to the appropriate Instructional Officer. Ensures that all College reports and requested information are submitted accurately and promptly. Assists in student recruitment including career fairs, college fairs, and community events. Coordinates retention and advising efforts with all students within the instructional division and enhances instructional services for adult learners. Coordinates an intervention plan for students on academic probation and/or suspension. Works with students to prevent/resolve academic transfer credit issues. Strengthens relationships with strategic college partners such as admissions, student services, financial aid, and transfer institutions. Monitors and evaluates students' educational progress by conducting academic progress audits as directed. Work closely with the College administration on the development of annual budgets for approval by the President. Maintain inventory records of all equipment assigned to the respective department and periodically reconcile their records with those maintained by the appropriate Instructional Officer. Supervises funds allocated for travel within the department and inform the appropriate Instructional Officer of travel requests submitted by instructors of the respective instructional division. Works with other instructional Associate Deans to oversee Orientation to College and/or Workforce Readiness Courses. Acts as liaison between the instructional division and appropriate administrators to ensure that policies and procedures are followed. Reviews and evaluates graduation applications as part of the degree audit process. Serves on and provides information to college committees as needed. Complies with ACCS and College policies, as well as state and federal laws. Ensures the positive promotion of the College and integration of all campuses within the College. Is prompt and punctual in reporting for work, meetings, and office hours. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Qualifications Master's Degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution. Five years of related experience. Three years of managerial or supervisory experience. Three Years of Full Time Teaching Experience in a Career Technical Education Program Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to traverse and work on multiple campuses. Ability to work well with others and work under pressure.. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience as an instructional division chair. Experience in a community college setting. Experience with Industry Partners dealing with Work Based Learning Models.
