SUMMARY:
To provide leadership and coordination among the various teams and extracurricular groups to facilitate programs that provide young people with a variety of programs for personal recreation, knowledge of such activities, physical training, and development of values including a sense of fair play.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee all extracurricular events and activities or, if unable to attend an event, find a substitute to oversee the event
  • Prepare and distribute an athletic events calendar and send reminders of coming events to schools and officials
  • Prepare programs for all appropriate extracurricular events
  • Arrange for team and club pictures for league, district, and state tournaments
  • Arrange with the building principal for the cancellation or postponement of home events due to adverse weather conditions
  • Arrange field and gym practice schedules, and schedule all athletic events
  • Assume responsibility for providing officials, ticket takers, and other personnel necessary for all home games and other extracurricular activities
  • Arrange all details of visiting teams' and officials' needs, including lodging, meals, towels, gymnasium services, security, and field assistance, as appropriate
  • Act as tournament manager for all league and playoff activities that are assigned to the school
  • Prepare facilities for athletic events such as setting up score tables, bleachers, ticket taker tables, and locker rooms
  • Oversee concessions and organizing crews to work at extracurricular activities
  • Oversee facility clean-up such as in the high school gym, locker rooms, hospitality rooms, and outdoor fields and facilities
  • Arrange transportation and housing for all extracurricular events, and communicate with the transportation supervisor regarding busing needs for off-campus events
  • Schedule all departure times for athletic events after meeting with administrators, coaches, and club advisors
  • Responsible for compliance with Board-adopted emergency medical procedures for all practice sessions and competitive events
  • Coordinate use of high school athletic facilities by groups outside the school in conjunction with the building principal and district
  • Serve as a liaison between school and booster group
  • Assist in screening and hiring of all athletic personnel
  • Conduct a coaches meeting at the beginning of each year to communicate federal and state law, administrative rules, Board policy, and IHSAA rules
  • Work as a liaison between the administration and the extracurricular activities staff
  • Supervise coaches, observing them sufficiently to make recommendations to the Building Principal regarding coaching assignments
  • Interact with sponsors for school clubs and organizations
  • Develop and implement appropriate rules governing the conduct of athletic activities
  • Responsible for administering all interscholastic policies and procedures in accordance with the rules of the Idaho High School Activities Association (IHSAA)
  • Understand Board policy to the extent necessary to provide guidance for the athletic program
  • Resolve any conflicts within the athletic department or among extracurricular activities
  • Provide formal written evaluation of all coaching positions
  • Monitor and certify each student's eligibility to participate in athletic activities according to IHSAA rules and relevant federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy
  • Maintain a permanent file of players, medical examinations, insurance forms, records and parent consent forms for students to participate as required. Maintains permanent records for each sport
  • Secure IHSAA approval for transfer students
  • Ensure each sport has an up to date team roster and that it is sent to all participating schools
  • Supervise all ticket sales and fundraising events of the extracurricular program
  • Maintain records of athletic contests and a record of all award winners, stating the date and type of award, including athletic scholarships
  • Arrange for any applicable physical examinations of athletes
  • Assume responsibility for the purchase and dissemination of all first aid and other medical supplies used in athletic programs
  • Assume responsibility for public relations with the community including newspaper and radio coverage of athletic events
  • Represent the school in all conference and state extracurricular meetings
  • Supervise the care, maintenance, and storage of all athletic equipment and supplies Coordinate with coaches and the principal to determine uniform and equipment needs, ordering when necessary
  • Require coaches to check in uniforms and equipment at the end of each sport season, keeping an accurate inventory
  • Constantly evaluate the extracurricular program and seek ways to improve it
  • Keep the building principal informed of activities and any issues that may arise
  • Assume responsibility for his or her continuing professional growth and development through such efforts as attendance at professional meetings, and by reading professional publications
  • Adhere to The Code of Ethics of the Idaho Teaching Profession adopted by the Professional Standards Commission and the State Board of Education
  • Seek assistance should emergencies arise
  • Represent the school district in a positive manner
  • Know and follow school district policy and chain of command
  • Perform other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

EDUCATION AND OR EXPERIENCE
  • Idaho Administrative Certification required
  • Athletic Administration experience preferred

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance, instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students and/or employees of the district.

Demonstrate sound judgment by taking appropriate actions regarding instructional practice and discipline.
PRODUCTIVITY/EFFICIENCY SKILLS
Consistently demonstrate ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary; organize job functions and work area to be able to effectively complete varied assignments within established time frame.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Able to conduct basic math functions and manipulate formulas in spreadsheets as needed.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form. Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
