Business and Technology Essential Function Directly responsible to the Department Chairperson or appropriate administrator.
Qualifications Education:
Associate's degree in Automotive Technology; Bachelor's degree in Automotive Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or closely related field preferred.
Certification:
ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Automotive Master Level Certification (A1-A9), Must include L1 (Advanced Engine Performance Specialist) Certification, L3 (Light Duty Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Specialist) Certification preferred, valid driver's license, Illinois teaching license or ability to obtain within first year of employment
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of full-time work experience as an automotive technician within the last 10 years in a dealership, independent repair facility, or equivalent setting with demonstrated expertise in: Engine repair and performance, Braking systems, Steering and suspension, Electrical systems, HVAC systems, Hybrid/Electric vehicle technology, Computerized diagnostics and repair; experience with current automotive technology, diagnostic equipment, and repair procedures, familiarity with industry standards, practices, and terminology
Knowledge/Skills:
Proficiency with automotive shop equipment, diagnostic tools, and software; Strong organizational and classroom management skills; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Ability to work with diverse student populations; Computer literacy and proficiency with common software applications; Knowledge of safety practices and OSHA regulations related to automotive instruction; Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and stand for extended periods Responsibilities 1. Instructs students in the facts, skills, and appreciations pertaining to the assigned courses. 2. Considers the general and special needs of the students, assists them in meeting their problems, and when necessary, seeks additional help from other college services. 3. Informs students of educational and occupational opportunities. 4. Observes schedule as approved by the department chairperson and appropriate administrator. 5. Cooperates with the department chairperson department members, and the appropriate administrators in the development of the curriculum, in the preparation and update of course syllabi, course outlines, and the selection of textbooks. 6. Recommends library books and other instructional materials. 7. Assists in the organization and meetings of advisory committees where applicable. 8. Consults with department chairperson on matters pertaining to departmental problems; observes proper channels of communications. 9. When needed, maintains an inventory of assigned equipment and supplies. 10. Submits midterm and final grade reports, deficiency notices, attendance records, and any other reports pertaining to the assigned course. Faculty will cooperate with the department Chairperson and the department members to provide artifacts of student learning outcomes for the assessment of course, program and general education outcomes. When the faculty receives the aggregate data of assessment results back, they determine if and what curricular changes are needed. 11. Participates in the formation of policies and regulations and assists in enforcing the regulations. Informs department chairperson in writing of any pending problem that might have a detrimental effect on the college. 12. Participates in faculty and professional organizations. 13. Attends scheduled monthly departmental/program meetings when there is no conflict with a professional responsibility. 14. Distributes to all students each term a course outline which covers the class requirements, grading procedure, attendance requirements, and objectives the instructor feels are appropriate.
