Job Description
The Department of Audiology at UConn Health is offering a 12-month 4th-year Doctor of Audiology externship position for the 2026-2027 academic year. This listing will be removed once the position has been filled. The student will work with audiologists, all of whom have earned a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), to provide a full array of diagnostic and rehabilitative services including amplification, implantable devices, and vestibular testing. Placement is pending the establishment of a student affiliation agreement between UConn Health and the respective program. The student affiliation agreement must be in place prior to the externship start date. Per hospital policy, the extern will be required to provide verification of health requirements as well as submit to a background check. We seek motivated applicants from an accredited Doctor of Audiology program to apply for this position. This is a non-paid clinical training position. Yes Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:- Comprehensive audiologic assessment, including pure-tone air, bone, and speech audiometry
- Tympanometry, immittance, and DPOAEs
- Basic hearing aid skills such as device selection, programming, and troubleshooting
- Appropriate counseling and documentation Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship: During the externship, the student will:
- Improve efficiency in diagnostic testing and counseling skills
- Strengthen clinical decision making-skills
- Demonstrate proficiency in hearing aid technology
- Demonstrate proficiency in vestibular evaluations (VNGs)
- Demonstrate proficiency in cochlear implant evaluations and programming
- Demonstrate proficiency in evoked potential assessments (ABRs & cVEMPs)
