Job Description

Barista / Counter Associate Roger That Bakery — Callicoon, NY Part-Time | Weekend Position At Roger That Bakery, we're a small independently owned microbakery focused on naturally leavened breads, house-milled grains, espresso, pastries, and thoughtful hospitality. We're looking for someone dependable, calm under pressure, detail-oriented, and genuinely excited about food and coffee to independently run our retail counter during service hours. This is a customer-facing role where you'll be responsible for operating the front counter largely on your own during busy weekend service. Responsibilities Take customer orders and operate Square POS/cash handling Prepare espresso drinks and drip coffee to house standards Steam milk and dial in espresso throughout service Grind coffee and maintain grinder cleanliness/calibration Wrap and package breads and baked goods Restock retail items, cups, lids, bags, etc. Maintain a clean, organized, food-safe workspace during service Communicate clearly with kitchen staff regarding inventory and customer questions Open and/or close the retail counter independently Provide warm, professional hospitality in a fast-paced environment Manage multiple customer orders simultaneously while maintaining quality and accuracy Requirements Previous café, bakery, restaurant, or customer service experience preferred Comfortable working independently and making decisions without constant supervision Basic espresso and milk steaming experience strongly preferred Ability to multitask efficiently during rushes Strong communication and interpersonal skills Reliable transportation and punctuality required Ability to stand for extended periods and lift 40-50 lbs occasionally Comfortable handling food products and maintaining sanitation standards Attention to detail and consistency Weekend availability required (Friday/Saturday/Sunday mornings and afternoons) Preferred Qualifications ServSafe Food Handler certification (or willingness to obtain) Experience with Square POS systems Specialty coffee experience Interest in artisan baking, food culture, or hospitality Experience opening or closing a café independently Ideal Candidate You are: Calm and organized under pressure Friendly without being overly scripted Self-motivated and trustworthy Comfortable working solo during service Passionate about quality food and coffee Interested in being part of a small creative business Schedule Primarily Friday-Sunday Morning availability required Part-time hours with potential for growth Pay Competitive hourly pay based on experience Tips Employee discounts on bakery items and drinks Experience matters, but reliability, attitude, and willingness to learn matter just as much.
