Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-2, in accordance with Kanawha County Schools Teacher Salary Schedule, commensurate with experience and education level.EVALUATION
Performance in this position will be evaluated by the Superintendent and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5310, and KCSBOE Policy Performance Evaluation of School Personnel - Administrative Procedures.JOB SUMMARY
The Beginning Teacher Academic Coach (BTAC) directly influences the success and retention of new teachers in the first and second years of their teaching career by supporting them through professional development and coaching/mentoring in the classroom with content, instruction, and classroom management through effective guidance, communication/feedback, and modeling instructional and management strategies. The BTAC works cooperatively with teachers, principals, curriculum specialists, other district and school-based instructional coaches, and district personnel to support the system's educational goals.GENERAL PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Job Duties. Work collaboratively with others in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction. Provide instructional support for teaching and classroom management through coaching and embedded or group professional development. Serve in a supportive, non-evaluative role to the assigned Beginning Teachers, teachers assigned to SIPP (Support for Improving Professional Practice), Student Teachers hired as TIRS, TIRES, or long-term substitutes and/or any teacher who is part of the KCS Alternative Certification Program or hired through other state-approved alternative certification programs. Keep abreast of current curriculum and instructional practices, changes in state law, and WVDE and KCS policies, including alternative certification programs. Assist new teachers with the lesson-planning process. Model effective lessons and instructional strategies, including modeling of co-teaching and technology, in classrooms. Provide feedback and academic coaching to assigned teachers. Model professionalism. Attend professional development in order to support Beginning Teachers in all aspects of instruction. Attend all Academic Coach and C&I meetings and trainings. Collaborate and communicate with the KCS Content Curriculum Specialists, district and school-based instructional coaches, principals, and district level personnel. Create and maintain a full-day weekly schedule in assigned schools, posted in a designated electronic platform, Submit a monthly travel expense report. Perform other duties as assigned. Must have five years of recent classroom experience with Accomplished or Distinguished Educator Evaluations. Must be available for summer planning and the Beginning Teacher Orientation Academy prior to the opening of school and throughout the school year. Must have a valid WV teaching certificate in core content area(s), Special Education, and/or regular education. Must have the ability to build supportive relationships with teachers, principals, and staff. Must have knowledge and understanding of current curriculum, adopted materials, classroom management strategies, and effective teaching strategies, including strategies in technology integration. Must have experience in providing professional development to other teachers. Must have the ability to build supportive relationships with others. Must have experience in teacher leadership roles and positions such as, but not limited to, PLC Leader or Teacher Leader, Faculty Senate Chairperson, SRA, 504/SAT coordinator, or other teacher or educator leadership experience. Must have the ability to demonstrate collaboration, communication, and organizational skills. Must have in depth knowledge and understanding of current teaching and learning strategies; College and Career Readiness Standards and Skills; and expertise in effectively using technology as an instructional tool and learning tool. Must have a positive attitude and agree to support the mission, goals, and action steps of Kanawha County Schools. Must be willing to work as a member of a support team and attend meetings, as scheduled; get along well with colleagues and others; follow all local and state policies and administrative regulations; and have a good attendance and work record as an employee of Kanawha County Schools. Master's Degree in education-related areas preferred. Must have a positive attitude and agree to support the mission, goals, and activities of Kanawha County Schools.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
