Job Description
General Purpose Responsible for preparing and maintaining monthly utility consumption records and billing, as well as assisting customers. May also be responsible for, or available to support, meter servicing needswithin the Utility Billing Department as needed. Supervision Received Works under the general supervision of the City Treasurer and Utility Lead Supervision Exercised None Essential Duties and Responsibilities An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties: Process and reconcile payments, including adjustments for utility bills, property taxes, specialassessments, permits, fines, parking violations, and other City revenues. Manage electronic payments (ACH, online, wires), including daily balancing, reconciliation, and bank deposits. Prepare and issue utility bills, tax bills, notices, and title searches. Provide customer service to residents by phone, email, and in person; respond to inquiries and resolve account issues. Assist with collection of delinquent accounts, including issuing notices, coordinating service shut-offs/ restorations, and monitoring payment plans. Support utility billing operations by processing meter data, reconciling usage and billing, and ensuring accurate consumption-based billing. Coordinate service orders, including new service requests, disconnections, and reconnections. Perform limited field support as needed, including meter readings, final readings, and delivery of notices. Maintain records, generate reports, and provide cross-functional support across Treasury and Utility operations. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned. Consequences of Errors Incorrect computer entries resulting in an increase or decrease in utility bills and delayed billing due to incorrect data. Desired Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Driver's License
- College level course work in computers, office administration, or accounting. Equivalent experience may be considered. Necessary Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Detail oriented
- Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, and able to learn billing software
- Ability to perform arithmetic computations accurately and quickly
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Ability to establish successful working relationships
- Provide excellent customer service, including the ability to effectively communicate and work with upset or difficult customers
- Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions
