Job Summary Examples of work for this specific vacancy at the Transportation Generalist Senior level include but are not limited to: Bridge Maintenance Performs and maintains necessary repairs and installations in the area of steel fabrication and erection of bridges and structures. Performs concrete work for the construction/ repair of bridges and structures. Performs carpentry duties related to bridges, buildings and structures. Cleans and prepares bridges, buildings, and structure surfaces for painting. Assists with or leads safety inspections on bridges and structures. Transfers and operates the full range of heavy equipment used by MnDOT. Determines proper traffic control layout in accordance with the Traffic Control Field Manual. Determines equipment, tools, materials and supplies needed to complete assignment. Performs other duties as assigned. Snow and Ice Maintains roadways for snow and ice control removes snow from roadways and shoulders; opens and widens roadways of large accumulations of snow; removes snow from rights of way or yards; applies anti-icing and de-icing chemicals on stretches of highway under slippery conditions; and removes ice and material from culverts.

Job Duties:

NOTE:

This position is an onsite/in the field position In case of roadway emergencies or weather events the incumbent is required to be immediately accessible to a phone and be able to report to work within one (1) hour of being called.

Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications The level of experience to perform this job at the Transportation Generalist Senior level can be achieved with: Two years of experience performing carpentry OR concrete OR iron work OR a combination of one or more of these activities.

Educational Substitution:

A two-year technical trades training or degree (e.g., carpentry, concrete /masonry, etc.) or equivalent may be substituted for one year of experience. ( In order for education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience, you must submit a copy of your transcript. ) Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records. A valid Driver's License with the ability to upgrade to a Class A Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement and no airbrake restriction within 6 months from dates of hire. MnDOT will provide on the job training to obtain a Class A CDL with no Airbrake Restrictions.

NHI Course:

Introduction to Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges, (Bridge Safety Inspection 1) within 1 year of hire or placement. The level of experience to perform this job at the Transportation Generalist level can be achieved with: One year of experience performing carpentry OR concrete OR iron work OR a combination of one or more of these activities.

Educational Substitution:

( In order for education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience, you must submit a copy of your transcript.) Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records. Must have a Valid Class B MN Driver's License with no air brake restriction and obtain a Tanker Endorsement by the date of hire. A Valid Class A MN Driver's License with tanker endorsement and no air brake restriction is required within 6 months of hire. Preferred Qualifications Previous MnDOT experience working as a Laborer, Transportation Associate or Transportation Generalist. Valid Class A MN Driver's License with tanker endorsement and no air brake restriction. Physical Requirements The physical demands of this job will vary, but typically requires lifting up to 100 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects and/or tools weighing 50-pounds. This job also may require walking or standing to a significant degree on rough terrain or may involve sitting with pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls. This job will require strenuous manual labor including but not limited to digging, shoveling, hauling, crawling, bending, pushing, pulling and climbing. Additional Requirements
