The Collector is responsible to the Collections Manager/Supervisor for the efficient processing of assigned accounts. Contacts members delinquent members and obtain past due payments, commitment agreements, establish a repayment plan, or make recommendations to mitigate the Credit Union loss.
Responsible and Accountable for:
Processes collection department payments via Western Union, Converge, ECM (ACH and Credit Card). Maintains established performance standards. Train and mentor level 1 collector. Assists management with special collection projects. Sends collection letters and emails using expiration dates and notices that are appropriate with delinquency type Recommends and prepares Workout Packets following approved Workout Program. Solid understanding of how to handle bankruptcy accounts Working knowledge of Repo process, letters, arrangements, fees, payments, and CPI. Responsible to understanding all loan types Skip Trace using approved sites. Understanding FDCPA, collection procedures and following Chartway Credit Union Policy and Procedures. Assists in area as directed by manager(s). Recommend loss prevention strategies that provide protection for the credit union with respect to its interest in collateral.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Communicate clearly utilizing proper grammar and telephone etiquette effectively and in a professional matter. Ability to correspond in a professional manner using Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to refer to policy and procedures when applying information and making decisions. Ability to change quickly with the needs of the Collection Department. Ability to compute math calculations using addition, subtraction, multiplications division and percentages. Adherence to State and Federal collection and bankruptcy laws, rules, and regulations. Cross•Collateralization polices Credit rating agencies and reports. Must be able to maintain composure with difficult or irate customers. Meet or exceed all training requirements for Level 1 position Ability to attend all required Credit Union meetings and successfully complete all required training classes.
Education and Experience:
Education:
High school education or equivalent GED.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of Collections experience in any of these areas. Consumer loan, Mortgage, Fraud, Small Business and Student Loans or equivalent experience working mid to high level delinquency accounts.
