The Cape Playhouse seeks a Box Office Manager to lead its year-round ticketing operation and play a leading role in ticket sales and customer service. With more than 50,000 patrons annually and ticket sales exceeding $4 million, the Playhouse operates a substantial professional ticketing and sales operation. The Box Office is both a major revenue center and one of the Playhouse's most important points of contact with its audiences.
The Box Office Manager will help drive ticket revenue, provide a high standard of customer service, and lead a knowledgeable, sales-oriented Box Office team. The position combines year-round responsibility with the intensity of a busy summer season. The Manager will oversee ongoing ticketing, sales, and patron service throughout the year, with activity increasing substantially during the mainstage season. The position offers an opportunity to help shape a Box Office operation increasingly focused on sales, service, and building lasting relationships with audiences. Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Audience Development, the Box Office Manager leads the day-to-day operation of the Box Office, with responsibility for ticket sales, customer service, staff leadership, and effective ticketing operations. As one of the Playhouse's primary points of contact with its audiences, the Manager plays an important role in both generating revenue and ensuring a welcoming, responsive, and professional patron experience.
Key responsibilities include: Driving ticket sales and revenue and fostering a sales-oriented culture within the BoxOffice. Monitoring sales and inventory and identify opportunities to improve performance. Working closely with the Director of Marketing & Audience Development to implement pricing, promotions, and other sales initiatives. Leading day-to-day customer service, ensuring a welcoming, responsive, and professional experience for patrons. Recruiting, training, scheduling, and supervising seasonal and part-time Box Office staff, with an emphasis on sales and customer service. Resolving patron questions and concerns with sound judgment and a strong commitment to customer service. Serving as the Playhouse's primary Tessitura resource and overseeing accurate and effective ticketing operations. Maintaining effective Box Office procedures, reporting, and administrative practices.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will bring a strong sales orientation, a deep commitment to customer service, sound judgment, organization, attention to detail, and the ability to lead and develop others. They should understand that the Box Office is both a sales operation and an important part of the audience experience. Demonstrated experience and successful performance in box office operations, ticketing, sales, customer service, hospitality, or another customer-facing environment is important. Experience in a professional performing arts or live-event setting is particularly valuable. Candidates should be comfortable with technology and have experience with Tessitura or another ticketing/CRM system. The role requires someone comfortable working in a hands-on, fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities, solving problems, providing first-class customer care, and remaining calm and effective during periods of high activity. Above all, we seek a collaborative, resourceful leader who takes pride in driving sales, providing excellent service, developing a strong team, and contributing to the success of the CapePlayhouse.
