UTILITY CLERK Join Our Team! The City of Columbus is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented, and customer-focused Utility Clerk . This position plays an important role in serving the public and supporting the City's financial and utility operations. The ideal candidate will be organized, accurate, professional, comfortable working independently, and able to manage multiple priorities. What You'll Do The Utility Clerk performs a variety of customer service, bookkeeping, financial, and administrative duties, including: Welcome and assist members of the public and City employees. Open and close City Hall and answer incoming telephone calls. Receive payments, issue receipts, collect fees, and balance the daily cash drawer. Prepare, process, collect, and record monthly water, sewer, and garbage utility billings. Prepare work orders for water, sewer, and garbage service starts, stops, and changes. Issue permits, including street cut and water well permits, and collect applicable fees. Process cemetery-related services, including plot sales, opening and closing work orders, burial records, deeds, and sexton fees. Write receipts for dog licenses, animal adoptions, bulk water sales, lease payments, permits, and other City transactions. Assist with pool administration, including verifying deposits, posting advertisements, preparing seasonal calendars and manager binders, and selling pool passes. Maintain records and files in accordance with applicable record-retention requirements. Keep current information on permits, applications, and requests for permits and variances in order to assist the public. Provide backup support for the Clerk/Treasurer, including payroll processing, City Council meetings, minutes, and other administrative duties. What We're Looking For Required qualifications include: High school diploma or equivalent. At least two years of office experience, including bookkeeping and computer operations. Ability to accurately perform mathematical calculations, bookkeeping, billing, collections, and recordkeeping. Strong computer skills and ability to learn and use various software programs and office equipment. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial and personal information. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to manage frequent interruptions and stressful situations professionally. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and the public.
