We are seeking a dedicated Optometric Assistant/Receptionist or Optician to join our team. As an Optometric Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting our optometrists and ensuring the smooth operation of our practice. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic healthcare environment while providing essential support to our patients.
Schedule:
This is for a full-time position (32
37 hours per week).
Must be available to work 2 Saturdays (half day) per month and be flexible during the week.
Responsibilities:
Create a welcoming environment by greeting patients, answering phone calls, directing patients, and taking messages.
Utilize EHR (electronic health record) software to maintain accurate patient records and manage appointments effectively.
Schedule and confirm patient appointments; check in patients for appointments.
Obtain, verify, and explain to patients their vision benefit plan or medical insurance plan.
Assist optometrists with patient care, including conducting preliminary tests: autorefractor, autotonometer, screening visual fields, retinal photos and conducting special diagnostic tests: OCT, threshold visual fields, corneal topography
Train patients with contact lens insertion and removal.
Provide support in optical, helping with dispensing eyeglasses and contacts, and doing frame selections, measurements, adjustments, and repairs.
Adhere to strict aseptic standards to ensure a clean and safe environment for patients.
Uphold patient confidentiality by following all HIPAA regulations.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred, with a focus on optometry and medical front office reception; however we are willing to train a new candidate to the field.
Strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with patients of all ages.
Proficient in using computer and electronic health record systems.
Basic math skills.
Experience in customer service or retail sales is beneficial.
Commitment to upholding patient privacy and complying with all HIPAA regulations.
