Veterinary Receptionist

Job Description

Veterinary Receptionist SPCA/Humane Society of Prince George's County (PGSPCA) Make a difference in the lives of animals and the people who love them! The Humane Society of Prince George's County (PGSPCA) is seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate, and organized Veterinary Receptionist to join our team. As both an animal rescue organization and a veterinary clinic providing affordable spay, neuter, and vaccination services, we are dedicated to improving the lives of animals throughout our community. Our clinic serves low-income pet owners and partners with other animal rescues to provide essential veterinary care to animals in need. We are looking for someone who shares our passion for animal welfare and understands the importance of making quality veterinary care accessible to everyone. The ideal candidate will provide excellent customer service, manage front desk operations, and assist with the daily flow of clinic activities. This position may also involve hands-on animal care and support for veterinary staff, making it an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys a varied, active role in a mission-driven environment. Responsibilities Greet clients warmly, answer phone calls and emails, schedule appointments, and provide information about clinic services. Manage client check-in and check-out, payment processing, medical records, and other administrative duties. Communicate professionally with pet owners, rescue partners, fosters, and veterinary staff. Help coordinate appointments and veterinary services for partner rescues and low-income clients. Maintain accurate patient records, medical histories, and other clinic documentation. Assist with animal intake, discharge, safe handling, restraint, and basic animal care as needed. Support veterinary staff during spay and neuter surgeries, vaccination clinics, and other procedures, as trained and directed. Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming reception area and clinic environment. Follow established clinic protocols for animal safety, sanitation, confidentiality, and medication documentation. Work collaboratively with the veterinary and rescue teams to ensure efficient daily operations and compassionate patient care. Qualifications Previous veterinary receptionist, veterinary assistant, animal hospital, or customer service experience preferred. A genuine passion for animal welfare and the mission of the Humane Society of Prince George's County. Excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills. Strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask in a busy clinic environment. Basic computer skills and the ability to learn veterinary practice management software. Experience with the Shepherd CRM program is a plus. Comfort working around dogs and cats, including animals that may be nervous or stressed. Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, rescue partners, and members of the public. Willingness to assist with hands-on animal care and learn new skills as needed. Veterinary terminology, medical recordkeeping, and animal handling experience are a plus. Why Join PGSPCA? At PGSPCA, your work will have a direct impact on animals and families in our community. Our team helps keep pets healthy, supports local rescue organizations, and makes essential veterinary services more accessible to those who need them most. You'll be part of a compassionate, mission-driven team where every appointment, every patient, and every interaction matters. We value teamwork, a positive attitude, reliability, and a shared commitment to improving animal welfare. If you're organized, dependable, enthusiastic, and ready to make a meaningful difference for animals, we would love to hear from you! Join PGSPCA and help us build a healthier, more compassionate community for pets and the people who love them.
