Job Description

About us: The reception area is located at the City of Burlington, Municipal Building, within the finance department. is the heart of ensuring financial integrity and excellence within the City of Burlington, NC.
What you will do:
An employee in this class is responsible for handling customer inquiries and greeting the public as the first line referral for a variety of support questions. Work involves heavy public contact functions and coordination with other departments within the City's organizational structure. This is a part-time position with scheduled hours not to exceed 1,508 a year. Duties may include, but are not limited to: Answer incoming office phone calls. Knowledge of City programs, services, and departmental contacts, with the ability to apply this knowledge when performing office support duties. Record Fix It! Burlington requests Greet, assist, and refer visitors, City staff, and members of the public. Respond to general inquiries and direct individuals to appropriate City departments or resources. Organize, maintain, and retrieve files and records. Post and distribute information as directed. Sort and distribute incoming and outgoing mail. Operate standard office equipment and utilize office technology. Perform other related administrative and customer service duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent customer service skills and a professional, courteous manner. Outstanding telephone etiquette and communication skills. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with members of the public. Ability to remain flexible, prioritize responsibilities, and effectively manage multiple tasks. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, visitors, and members of the public. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED with considerable office work experience involving heavy public contact; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Work in this class is described as being sedentary and seldom requires much physical exertion to complete tasks. Work typically involves the ability to physically perform the basic life operational functions of reaching, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions. Working conditions include inside environmental conditions.
