Job Description

General Statement of Duties Installs, repairs, and maintains a variety of HVAC systems and temperature control systems. Must have knowledge of hazards and safety practices associated with trade and must demonstrate the ability to analyze and correct faulty systems; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Repairs and maintains HVAC equipment in school facilities ranging from chillers to window units, boilers, air handlers, VAVs, package units, water source heat pumps, energy recovery units, etc. Knowledge of HVAC, electrical, and/or refrigeration is required. Must be able to work alone or as a team member. Knowledge of building automation a plus. Physical condition that will permit activities including but not limited to heavy lifting, bending, driving, adverse weather, and working from ladders, scaffolding lifts, etc. Position may be filled by a journey licensed electrician or journey level HVAC technician to work with the air conditioning trade. Essential Duties Installs, maintains and repairs all types of HVAC and temperature control systems; i.e. boilers, heat pumps, air handlers, chilled water and hot water systems;
  • Checks various units and systems for correct operating pressures and possible leaks;
  • Checks all systems for leaks, faulty control mechanisms and adjusts or regulates such mechanisms as required;
  • Analyzes and corrects faulty operation due to equipment malfunction;
  • Complies with all HVAC federal/state/local regulations; maintains refrigerant usage log;
  • Participates in training relative to job;
  • Responsible for locating and ordering materials necessary for maintenance and projects;
  • Attends work daily and is engaged and on task;
  • Performs overtime work on a scheduled, unscheduled, routine or emergency basis, as assigned;
  • Performs other duties as assigned Additional Information This vacancy is open until filled and is available for the 26-27SY.
This is a 12 month, 8 hours per day, 260-day position. Minimum salary is $51,502.78 ($24.76 hourly) or based on promotion policy for internal candidates. Salary is prorated based on official start date. Work hours are 7:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Henrico County Schools reserves the right to begin screening applications and make a selection at any time during the posting period. Minimum Requirements Graduation from high school, trade school or equivalent, with specific HVAC technical training (Journey license desirable, CFC card required), experience in the repair and maintenance of air conditioning and heating equipment, including related electrical wiring required and state and local mechanical codes. Demonstrated ability to analyze and correct equipment and system malfunctions. Good knowledge of hydronics and air flow required. Good knowledge of the procedures, materials, tools, trade practices and ability to understand blueprints and wiring diagrams. Must be in good physical condition that will permit activities including, but not limited to, heavy lifting, bending, driving, and working under adverse temperatures and/or weather conditions. Ability to work from high altitudes using scaffold, ladders, etc. Must also possess valid Virginia drivers' license.
