Job Description

Description:
The Field Worker performs a variety of hands-on agricultural duties supporting the cultivation, care, and maintenance of the Tribe's crops and farming operations. This position has a primary specialty in pruning and plant maintenance, including seasonal and corrective pruning of trees, vines, and other agricultural plants to promote healthy growth, plant structure, and crop production. The Field Worker also assists with irrigation, planting, harvesting, fertilizing, weed control, equipment care, and general grove and farm maintenance while following established safety, sanitation, organic, and conventional agricultural practices. Exercises no supervision.
Requirements:
Responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Pruning and Plant Maintenance Perform routine and seasonal pruning of trees, vines, shrubs, and other agricultural plants. Prune avocado, citrus, fruit, olive, and other trees and crops based on operational needs. Remove dead, damaged, diseased, crossing, and unproductive branches or growth. Perform thinning, shaping, training, and corrective pruning to encourage healthy plant growth and crop production. Use hand pruners, loppers, pruning saws, pole pruners, and other pruning equipment safely and effectively. Clean, maintain, sanitize, and properly store pruning tools and equipment. Identify and report plant disease, pest activity, damaged limbs, irrigation concerns, and other plant-health issues. Follow sanitation procedures to prevent the spread of disease or cross-contamination between growing areas. Remove, collect, chip, or properly dispose of pruning debris. General Agricultural Duties Plant, prune, water, and maintain crops. Assist with irrigation system setup, monitoring, and maintenance. Assist with fertilizer, soil treatment, pesticide, and herbicide applications under supervision. Monitor crops for disease, pests, and overall plant health. Harvest crops when ready and assist with sorting, packing, and preparing products for transport or sale. Remove weeds, debris, and trash and maintain clean agricultural work areas. Assist with planting new trees and other general grove or farm maintenance. Report damaged or malfunctioning equipment and assist with basic repairs when appropriate. Support other Agriculture Department operations as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience:
Previous experience in agriculture, grove work, landscaping, farming, or a similar field is preferred. Must pass a security background check and drug screening.
