Job Description

Essential Functions:
§ Good knowledge of grounds maintenance activities and the procedures; § Oversees and participates in the use of power equipment, i.e., tractor lawn mowers, grass cutters, etc. in the maintenance, mowing raking and cutting of grass in municipal parks. § Uses various power and non-power tolls in the trimming and/or removal of brush and trees in park areas; § Operates a pick-up truck or other vehicle to transport equipment, supplies or personnel to various park sites. § Maintains waling paths, driveways and parking lots including sweeping of areas and snow removal. § Provides landscaping as needed; § Maintains irrigation system - Repair, install, run and make irrigation adjustments. § Acts in the capacity of Park Foreman in his/her absence; § Maintains, services and makes minor adjustments to power tools, motorized equipment and park vehicles; § Participates in establishing work schedules and may maintain records and reports in connection with work; § Responds to municipal emergencies; § Assists in the Inspection of on-going park projects for appearance and safety, may make recommendations to the Park Foreman on work/repairs needing to be done; § May keep inventory of department's tools and equipment; § May use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software. § Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the essential duties of the position; § Provides help to other departments as needed.

Supervisory Responsibility This role manages and supervises seasonal employees in the parks department and is responsible for the coordination of the parks seasonal crew. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training seasonal employees; planning, assigning and directing work of seasonal employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Physical Demands The physical demand described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach and pull with hand and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, twist, bend and kneel. The employee must regularly lift or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must regularly dig and shovel, digging for the sprinkler system and shovel of snow removal. Position Type/ Expect Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, hours fluctuate depending on season. Frequent evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Travel Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected. Required Education and Experience Equivalent to a High School Diploma and one (1) year of work experience in the maintenance of parks, park areas or grounds. Must possess a valid Idaho driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record. Preferred Education and Experience A degree in Landscape Maintenance or Parks Maintenance. Additional Eligibility Qualifications Must obtain chemical applicators license.
