Job Description

Job Title:
Grounds Keeper Organization:
Lincoln Izaak Walton League Position Overview The Lincoln Izaak Walton League is seeking a self-motivated Grounds Keeper to manage general grounds maintenance, upkeep, and equipment operation across our facilities. This role is responsible for maintaining clean, safe, and well-kept outdoor areas, ranges, and roads across the property.
Key Responsibilities Grounds Maintenance & Landscaping:
Mow lawns, apply lawn care chemicals, weed, mulch, and maintain grounds. Trim shrubs, bushes, and trees; clear unwanted trees as needed. Maintain roads and trails by applying white rock and gravel when necessary. Handle snow removal and salt application during winter months.
Facility & Range Upkeep:
Perform minor repairs throughout the facility, such as repairing fences. Remove trash from barrels across facilities, including the rifle/pistol ranges, archery range, and pond area (and occasionally assist with trap range trash as needed). Maintain clean, organized shop areas.
Equipment Operation & Servicing:
Safely operate large mowers, tractors, ATVs, skid steers, trailers, leaf blowers, and related grounds tools. Perform basic inspections and routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment. Report equipment repair or major servicing needs to managers.
Planning & Supply Management:
Assist in planning work days and identifying supply needs. Monitor stock levels of white rock, gravel, gas, diesel, fertilizers, and other supplies; notify management when reordering is required.
Qualifications & Requirements Education & Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred. 1-2 years of related groundskeeping or facility maintenance experience preferred.
Licensing:
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Physical Demands Technical Skills:
Knowledge of grounds maintenance procedures, equipment, and hand tools (shovels, rakes, pruners, saws, t-posts, etc.). Strong safety awareness regarding power equipment, skid steers, tractors, and machinery.
Work Ethic & Teamwork:
Self-starter capable of working independently, keeping on schedule, and demonstrating an eye for detail. Ability to lead a small crew when necessary and collaborate effectively in a team setting. Strong customer service, interpersonal skills, and positive attitude. Ability to read, write, and carry out verbal and written instructions.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work outdoors across all weather conditions. Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 lbs. Physical capability to bend, stretch, twist, reach, and perform repetitive labor.
