JOB DESCRIPTION
Primary Purpose:
Maintain safe and attractive grounds and landscaping for the District.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Major Responsibilities and Duties Grounds and Landscaping Mow and detail all district grounds, including athletic fields. Care for trees, shrubs and flowers by watering, pruning, fertilizing, mulching, maintaining beds and controlling weeds. Plant shrubs and vegetation. Water grounds and apply fertilizer. Collect and dispose of leaves, dirt, debris and refuse from district grounds and facilities. Assist with the inspection, repair and installation of sprinkler systems. Assist with the preparation of athletic fields for games, including chalking fields. Help keep equipment and tools in proper operating condition by performing minor adjustments and repairs. Safety Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency. Report any faulty equipment and safety hazards to the supervisor. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures. Follow established safety procedures and techniques in lifting, climbing and performing other job duties. Correct any unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately. Attendance at work is an essential function. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or designee.

EXPERIENCE
Minimum Experience:
Experience in grounds work preferred
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education/Certification:
High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred Valid Texas driver's license Eligible for coverage under the District's vehicle insurance program
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to read and understand written instructions Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) Ability to operate tractor and landscaping equipment Ability to operate riding or power mower, power tools and hand tools Knowledge of minor repair techniques and ground maintenance
OTHER INFORMATION
Equipment Used:
Tractor and mower, riding and power mower, weed trimmer, blower, edger, saw, sprayer, striping machine, garden and hand tools, posthole auger, maintainer, aerator, fertilizer spreader, truck or van.
Working Conditions:
Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching and heavy lifting and carrying. Work outside and around moving objects or vehicles. Exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals (herbicides and fertilizers) and loud noises. Frequent district-wide travel.
