LANDSCAPE SPECIALIST
The Landscape Specialist is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and enhancement of landscaped common areas throughout the Lake Ridge community. The position reports directly to the Landscape Foreman and Crew Leader but may also receive directions from the General Maintenance Foreman, Assistant Director, and the Facilities Director. The Landscape Specialist is expected to perform all duties in accordance with the policies and procedures established by the Board of Directors and the Employee Handbook.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Installs, plants, mulches, weeds, and maintains landscape beds throughout the Association's common areas. Performs seasonal pruning of ornamental trees and shrubs. Operates and performs routine maintenance on grounds maintenance equipment and tools. Reports equipment malfunctions and repair needs to the Forman, Crew Leader or Mechanic. Assists with litter collection and servicing of pet waste disposal stations. Assists with snow and ice removal operations, including plowing, shoveling, snow blowing, sanding, and applying deicing materials. Identifies and reports potential safety hazards or liability concerns within Association property to a supervisor. Submits receipts and documentation for approved purchases and materials to the supervisor. Provides service and support for department operations outside of normal working hours if needed (i.e. snow, wind, storm, etc.) Completes assigned work in a safe, timely, efficient, and professional manner. Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to perform physically demanding work in a safe manner under a variety of weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow. Working knowledge of landscape maintenance practices, including identification and care of common trees, shrubs, flowers, and seasonal plantings. Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, landscape equipment, and Association vehicles. Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with residents, vendors, and coworkers while maintaining composure in challenging situations. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, prioritize work, adapt to changing assignments, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
This is an essential position requiring availability to respond during emergencies, severe weather events, and other operational needs outside of normal working hours. This is a safety-sensitive position. Employees are required to wear all assigned personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. Successful completion of a post-offer physical examination demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the position is required as a condition of employment.
PREFERRED SKILLS
Basic mechanical aptitude for performing routine equipment inspections and minor maintenance is preferred. Possessing and maintaining a valid Virginia driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Employment is subject to periodic motor vehicle record reviews.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
The Landscape Specialist works primarily outdoors and is routinely exposed to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, pollen, fumes, insects, plants, animals, moving vehicles, and heavy equipment. This position requires the ability to: Walk three or more miles per day over uneven terrain. Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, balance, reach, push, pull, and grasp. Frequently perform repetitive motions involving the hands, arms, and shoulders. Lift and carry up to 80 pounds. Exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds continuously to move equipment or materials.

$15.50 - $18.00 per hour Expected hours: 80.0 per week
