This role blends horticultural expertise with retail leadership, transitioning the greenhouse through every season, from spring's peak color all the way to our full Christmas greens operation each winter. Working closely with our Lexington General Manager and in coordination with our Director of Greenhouse Operations and Operations Manager, this person keeps the Lexington greenhouse healthy, well-stocked, and inspiring, twelve months a year. Role Responsibilities Customer Experience Facilitates sales by working personally with customers, offering plant recommendations that match their space, style, and gardening experience. Shares gardening fundamentals — plant identification, soil amendment, fertilizing, and watering — helping customers feel confident in both their purchase and the care that follows. Leads workshops and seasonal events that bring the community into the greenhouse and deepen their connection to Wilson Plant Co. Assists customers with plant care questions and troubleshooting, ensuring every guest leaves informed and set up for success. Leadership & Team Management Leads a growing team of greenhouse associates, setting the pace and standard for plant care and customer service. Mentors associates in plant knowledge, sales technique, and daily greenhouse operations, building a team that grows in confidence and expertise. Fosters a collaborative, people-first culture where associates feel supported and invested in the greenhouse's success. Plant Care & Seasonal Operations Oversees the care of all annual, herb, vegetable, perennial, tropical, and foliage plant material, managing display, watering, fertilizing, and culling to keep crops healthy and market-ready, and working with our Director of Greenhouse Operations and Head Grower to address any concerns quickly. Transitions the greenhouse through every season — from full-tropical summer, to Pumpkin Village in fall, to a holiday market of fresh greens and houseplants in winter — arranging and preparing the space to maximize sales as inventory and demand shift throughout the year. Keeps displays consistently well-stocked and visually strong between major seasonal transitions, replenishing and reworking sections as plants sell through. Communication & Collaboration Reports to our Director of Greenhouse Operations and/or Operations Manager, providing regular updates on inventory, sales trends, and team performance. Works closely with our Lexington General Manager to align greenhouse operations with the store's broader goals, staffing needs, and customer experience. Communicates proactively across departments to keep everyone informed of greenhouse needs, promotions, and seasonal transitions. Role Qualifications Horticultural degree and/or 3+ years of retail nursery or greenhouse experience, with strong knowledge of annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables, and houseplants. Sales-oriented mindset with a real ability to connect customers with the right plants for their space and goals. Working knowledge of gardening fundamentals, plant identification, soil amendment, planting, fertilizing, and watering. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Strong self-starter with excellent communication and organizational skills, comfortable leading a team in a constantly changing environment. Genuine desire to build and grow a profitable division within an established, larger company. Able to stand, walk, and work in an indoor and outdoor environment in all weather conditions, with the ability to repeatedly lift up to 50 lbs. What Makes This Role Different Lexington is smaller and tighter-knit than Frankfort, so you're not just running a department — you're helping shape what the whole location becomes You're the plant expert customers seek out, not just the person watering the aisles — real ownership over sales, merchandising, and the team Employee discount means your own houseplant collection is about to get seriously out of hand
