Non-Exempt Position Summary Mason is responsible for performing skilled masonry work on commercial construction, renovation, and installation projects. This position involves constructing, repairing, restoring, and finishing structures using concrete block, brick, stone, mortar, grout, and related materials. The Mason must be experienced in tuckpointing and masonry restoration, including removing deteriorated mortar joints, preparing joints, matching mortar, and installing new mortar to produce a clean, durable, and professional finished appearance. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Lay concrete block, brick, stone, and other masonry materials according to project plans and specifications. Perform tuckpointing and repointing of existing brick, block, and stone masonry. Remove deteriorated, cracked, or failed mortar from masonry joints using appropriate hand and power tools. Clean and properly prepare masonry joints before installation of new mortar. Mix mortar to achieve the proper consistency, strength, composition, and appearance for new and existing masonry. Match existing mortar color, texture, joint profile, and overall appearance when performing restoration work. Tool and finish mortar joints to produce a consistent, professional appearance. Repair cracked, loose, deteriorated, or damaged brick, block, stone, and mortar joints. Build, repair, and modify walls, partitions, foundations, openings, curbs, and other masonry structures. Mix and prepare mortar, grout, concrete, and other masonry materials. Measure, cut, shape, and position masonry materials accurately. Read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, dimensions, and project specifications. Establish and maintain proper layout, elevation, alignment, level, and plumb. Install reinforcement, anchors, ties, lintels, and related masonry components as required. Perform demolition and removal of existing masonry when required for remodel and renovation projects. Patch and repair concrete and masonry surfaces. Properly use masonry saws, grinders, tuckpointing tools, mixers, hand tools, power tools, and other construction equipment. Protect adjacent surfaces during cutting, grinding, tuckpointing, and masonry repair operations. Coordinate work with foremen, project managers, subcontractors, and other trades. Identify field conditions that could affect quality, schedule, or productivity and communicate them to project leadership. Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work area. Properly maintain company tools, equipment, and materials. Assist with material loading, unloading, staging, and jobsite cleanup. Complete assigned work efficiently while meeting company productivity and quality expectations. Follow all company, customer, OSHA, and jobsite safety policies and procedures. Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE). Perform additional construction-related duties as assigned. Qualifications Previous commercial masonry experience preferred. Demonstrated experience performing tuckpointing, repointing, and masonry restoration work. Ability to remove and replace deteriorated mortar without unnecessarily damaging surrounding masonry. Ability to produce clean and consistent mortar joints and match existing masonry finishes. Knowledge of masonry installation and repair methods, materials, tools, and equipment. Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic construction calculations. Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications. Ability to establish proper layout and maintain level, square, and plumb installations. Experience operating masonry saws, grinders, tuckpointing equipment, mixers, and related tools. Ability to work effectively with limited supervision. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Dependable attendance and punctuality. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, customers, and other trades. Willingness to travel and work varying schedules when required by project needs. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation may be required. Physical Requirements The Mason must be able to frequently lift and carry construction materials weighing up to 50-75 pounds and stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb, reach, and perform repetitive movements for extended periods. The position may require work from ladders, scaffolding, lifts, and elevated areas when properly trained and authorized. Employees must be capable of working indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions and performing physically demanding construction work throughout the scheduled shift.
Pay:
$23.40 - $28.17 per hour
