FINISH CARPENTER / LEAD CARPENTER

He sees the details others miss, figures out problems before they become bigger problems, protects the customer's home, and takes pride in the finished product. That's the kind of carpenter we're looking for. MR Planners has been remodeling homes in Northeast Indiana since 1975. We specialize in kitchens, bathrooms, cabinetry, finish carpentry, and custom residential remodeling where quality and attention to detail matter. We aren't a production builder. Our projects are different from one home to the next, and our carpenters are expected to think, solve problems, and take ownership of their work.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

THE WORK

Our carpenters are involved in many aspects of residential remodeling, including: Kitchen and bathroom remodeling Cabinet and countertop installation Finish carpentry and detailed trim work Window and door installation Vanities, tubs, showers, and accessories Drywall installation and finishing Light framing and remodeling Basic plumbing reconnects — sinks, faucets, drains, etc. Reading plans and construction drawings Jobsite protection, organization, and cleanup Working directly around homeowners and their belongings For a Lead Carpenter, the role also includes taking ownership of the project, coordinating the work, solving problems, maintaining quality, and helping keep the job moving forward. You may be a good fit if you: Know how to do quality work—and care about the details Can work without someone standing over you Can look at a problem and figure out a reasonable solution Take responsibility for your work Are comfortable communicating with homeowners Keep your work area clean and organized Understand that working in someone's home requires professionalism Can lead by example Are willing to learn when you encounter something you haven't done before Want to continue developing your skills rather than simply punching a clock We are looking for someone who wants to build a reputation, not just complete a job.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred:

3+ years of residential remodeling or finish carpentry experience Strong cabinet installation experience Finish carpentry and trim skills Window and door installation experience Drywall hanging and finishing Basic plumbing reconnects Ability to read construction drawings Experience working independently on remodeling projects

Required:

Valid driver's license Good driving record Ability to pass a criminal background check Physically capable of performing residential remodeling work Professional carpentry tools Reliable transportation; truck preferred

HONEST SKILL LEVEL MATTERS

You don't need to know everything. We do need you to be honest about what you know. We would rather hire a carpenter who accurately understands his abilities and is willing to learn than someone who exaggerates his experience. Applicants should be prepared to discuss actual hands-on projects they have personally completed . Depending on the position, we may ask applicants to demonstrate their skills during a paid working interview . If you have strong skills, we want to recognize them. If there are areas where you need more experience, that's okay too. Your pay and responsibilities should reflect the skills you can actually demonstrate.
