Do You Like Working Independently? Do you attack a to-do list like a junkyard dog? Do you enjoy a challenge, solving problems, and figuring out how to get things done? We're looking for you! At 1st Choice Companies, we provide white-glove service to clients with high expectations. Our clients rely on us for a wide variety of projects, repairs, maintenance, and sometimes jobs that are a little outside the ordinary. We're looking for a true Jack or Jill of all trades —someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys variety, and can confidently move from detailed carpentry to property maintenance, repairs, cleaning, and whatever else the day brings. If you're dependable, resourceful, organized, and take ownership of your work, we'd love to hear from you. About the Position This hands-on position combines skilled carpentry, general construction, property maintenance, repairs, and specialty services for residential and commercial properties. You'll work independently on assigned projects while communicating regularly with the office and working collaboratively with the rest of the team. No two days are exactly alike. The right person is comfortable working independently, adapting to changing priorities, solving problems in the field, and delivering quality work that meets our clients' expectations. What You'll DoCarpentry & Construction Perform framing, finish carpentry, trim work, decking, siding, and general carpentry tasks. Install and repair doors, windows, cabinetry, custom millwork, hardware, and fixtures. Complete drywall repairs, minor demolition, and general remodeling and construction tasks. Measure, cut, fit, and assemble materials accurately. Read and interpret blueprints, project plans, and installation instructions. Install shelving, handrails, lighting, ceiling fans, and other residential or commercial improvements. Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas and construction sites. Property Maintenance Clean gutters and perform seasonal property maintenance. Complete yard work, painting, general cleaning, and exterior upkeep. Assist with winterizing homes and preparing properties for seasonal changes. Check fluid levels and tire pressure on company vehicles and equipment. Perform preventative maintenance and identify issues that need attention. Repairs & Troubleshooting Perform general plumbing repairs, such as replacing faucet cartridges and toilet flush valves and resetting toilets. Replace light switches, electrical outlets, and other devices when qualified and legally permitted to do so. Complete basic carpentry repairs, including replacing rotted wood. Repair or replace damaged window and door screens. Troubleshoot common property maintenance issues and determine practical solutions. Perform minor equipment and small-engine maintenance when capable. Cleaning & Property Care Clean and maintain boats, bathrooms, home interiors, and windows. Clean construction sites during active projects. Keep company vehicles, trucks, trailers, tools, and equipment clean and organized. Maintain the high level of care and attention to detail expected by our clients. The Miscellaneous Stuff Pick up and deliver materials for coworkers and projects. Move furniture, equipment, and other items for clients. Assist with occasional demolition, digging, moving materials, and other physically demanding tasks. Help with unexpected projects and requests that come with providing high-quality property services. Direct an occasional helper or subcontractor as needed. What We Expect Communication and accountability Check in with the supervisor around 2:00 p.m. to report progress, confirm whether the current job will be completed that day, and identify any materials or supplies needed. Accurately estimate the time required to complete assigned work and communicate when plans change. Document completed work with clear photos and accurate notes using company software or mobile applications. Recognize when additional help, materials, or guidance are needed and ask for them promptly. Accept feedback professionally and use it to improve. Communicate respectfully with clients, coworkers, subcontractors, and the office. Organization and independence Work productively with minimal supervision and take ownership of assigned tasks. Keep yourself, your work area, tools, vehicles, and equipment organized. Manage a task list, prioritize work, and adapt when schedules or client needs change. Be coachable, resourceful, and willing to learn new skills. Take pride in completing work properly rather than simply checking a task off the list. Safety and physical requirements Safely lift and carry more than 50 pounds when required. Confidently set up and use a ladder to access second-story gutters, windows, and other elevated work areas. Follow safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment. Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including attics, basements, and other challenging environments. Drive a pickup truck with an attached trailer. Be willing to learn to operate a boat for projects on island properties. Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in carpentry, property maintenance, construction, remodeling, or related work. Strong carpentry skills, including finish work, trim, doors, framing, and general repairs. Practical knowledge of multiple trades, including basic plumbing, HVAC troubleshooting, residential electrical repairs, drywall, and general construction. Ability to safely operate common hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment. Ability to read a tape measure, take accurate measurements, and follow project plans. Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment when working independently. Good organizational, time-management, and communication skills. Professional appearance and a customer-service mindset. Valid driver's license and willingness to complete a background check. Must be at least 18 years old. Experience with home winterization, small-engine maintenance, and boat operation is helpful but not required. Willingness to learn is essential. All work involving electrical, plumbing, HVAC, ladders, boats, or other potentially hazardous activities must be performed within applicable licensing requirements, safety standards, and company procedures.
