An experienced carpenter is skillful in many different tasks and versed in the use of many different tools. A carpenter is responsible for constructing, repairing, and installing building frameworks and structures made from wood and other materials. A carpenter ensures workmanship and quality, and the work is done to specifications and blueprints.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
Performed and complete work in conformance with drawings and specs Identify, evaluate, develop, and implement solutions to complex problems Knowledge of materials, methods, tools, and equipment involved in construction Maintain a safe and clean working environment Must be able to determine dimensions and materials required Must be able to measure, shape and cut materials to specified measurements Must know how to install structures or fixtures and verify trueness of structure and/or fixture Must know how to remove damaged or defective parts or sections of structures and repair or replace Must know how to construct forms or chutes for pouring concrete Must know how to erect scaffolding or ladders for assembling structures above ground level Must know how to assemble or fasten materials Operate vehicles, mechanized devices, or equipment Perform general physical activities that requires use of arms, legs and movement of whole body including but not limited to climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, and stooping Handling, moving and/or manipulating objects or materials
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Must have experience and knowledge of tools and equipment used in construction Must have experience and knowledge of construction processes Must have problem solving and critical thinking skills and the ability to identify, evaluate and implement options and/or alternatives to resolve issues Must have ability to communicate clearly and effectively Must be organized and have the ability to coordinate and multi-task Must have the ability to read and understand blueprints, specifications, regulations and building codes Must be able to prioritize work Must be able to determine the kinds of equipment and tools needed to perform work Must have good time management skills Must have basic knowledge of building codes, requirements and regulations
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent desired 2+ years of prior work experience as carpenter in residential or commercial construction
REQUIREMENTS
Must have excellent attention to detail Must be highly motivated and goal oriented Must be well organized Must be able to communicate with a wide variety of individuals Must be able to tolerate working in a wide variety of conditions including but not limited to extreme weather conditions (above 90° F and below 32° F) Must have trunk strength (the ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without fatiguing or giving out) Must have manual dexterity (the ability to quickly move your hand, hand and arm, or both hands in order to grasp, manipulate or assemble) Must have stamina (the ability to exert yourself physically over long periods of time) Must have static strength (the ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull or carry objects with a minimum weight of 80 lbs.) Must have extent flexibility (the ability to bend, stretch, twist or reach) Must have finger dexterity (the ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers to grasp, manipulate or assemble small objects) Must have multi-limb coordination (the ability to coordinate two or more limbs while sitting, standing, or laying) Must have control precision (the ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls to exact positions) Must have dynamic strength (the ability to exert muscle force repeatedly or continuously over time with resistance to muscle fatigue) Must have gross body coordination (the ability to coordinate the movement of arms, legs, and torso together when body is in motion) Must have gross body equilibrium (the ability to keep or regain body balance or stay upright when in an unstable position) Must wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses and steel toe shoes and any additional protective or safety equipment required for site conditions) Must be reliable, responsible, and dependable Must be honest, ethical and have self-control Must be flexible/ adaptable to change Must be able to deal calmly and effectively with high stress situations Must have imitative and be willing to take on additional responsibilities and challenges Pay is based on experience.
